AMON AMARTH CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009 !
The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that Viking metallers AMON AMARTH have been added to the bill for BOA 2009.
Amon Amarth were formed in Stockholm in 1992, issuing several demos during the next few years which eventually led to a deal with Pulverised Records who released the mini-album Sorrow Throughout the Nine Worlds in 1996. Metal Blade were suitably impressed with the bands epic death metal and promptly signed them on a long term contract. Their first full-length album Once Sent From The Golden Hall appeared in 1998 and saw the band embark on an album-tour-album cycle which laid the foundations for a wider international profile. Both The Avenger (1999) and The Crusher (2001) built on the success of Once Sent From The Golden Hall, with relentless touring taking the bands increasingly impressive live show to bigger and bigger audiences.
2002s Versus The World and 2004s Fate Of Norns saw the band break through to the next level, extensive worldwide touring, a triumphant show at Wacken 04 and a legendary performance at Bloodstock indoor in 2005 capping a highly successful period. Following Fate Of Norns was never going to be easy, but 2006s With Oden On Our Side did just that with consummate ease. Clearly the bands most carefully crafted album to date, it saw them tour worldwide yet again and begin to win support from the wider metal community. Their current album Twilight Of The Thunder God has continued their global rise, charted impressively all over the world and seen them raid UK shores once more as part of the recent Unholy Alliance tour. Expect tattered banners and bloody flags when they return to Bloodstock

BLOODSTOCKS THIRD STAGE IS RENAMED THE SOPHIE LANCASTER STAGE
STAMP - OUT - PREJUDICE - HATRED + - INTOLERANCE - EVERYWHERE
The Bloodstock Team are very proud to announce their 3rd Stage (previously known as the Lava Stage) will be renamed this year The Sophie Lancaster Stage.
They felt this would be a fitting tribute to a young girl who was brutally attacked along with her boyfriend in 2007 while walking through her local park in Bacup, Lancashire. Sophie and her boyfriend were singled out not for anything they had said or done, but because they looked and dressed differently. Unfortunately Sophie later died in hospital following the injuries from this vicious and unprovoked attack.
Bloodstock organiser Paul Gregory said It is our hope that renaming the stage will help to keep Sophies memory alive and raise awareness to our society that this kind of brutal behaviour will not be tolerated.
Sophies family have set up THE SOPHIE LANCASTER FOUNDATION. Through the Foundation they hope to provide training to professionals in order to raise awareness of the prejudice and violence faced by people from alternative subcultures. The foundation will develop and deliver workshops tackling the issues and challenging pre-conceptions. They will work towards offering advice and information to whoever may need it. This foundation will continue the campaigning in the same dignified manner adhered to since the attack on Sophie and her boyfriend Rob though the S.O.P.H.I.E. Campaign.
Sophie's brother, Adam Lancaster said What happened horrified more people then we could ever know, not just the attack but the pointlessness of it all. We thank you for your thoughts and wishes and look forward to being involved with Bloodstock in 2009."
Two acts that will perform on the stage include female fronted Goth / Metal band Pythia who were brought together by a love of gothic literature and Metal. PYTHIA are a group of classical and metal inspired musicians who believe that music is a lifestyle that should be lived only by the brave and true of heart. Bloodstock also welcome back crowd favourites BEHOLDER, who on their latest release Unleash The Hell, have written and recorded a track dedicated to the memory of Sophie entitled Youll Never Take Us Down. With BEHOLDERS wild antics, powerful material and their strong support of the Sophie Campaign, it promises to be a fitting tribute.

BATTLELORE CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009!
The Bloodstock team are pleased to announce that symphonic metallers BATTLELORE have been added to the bill for Bloodstock Open Air 2009.
Battlelore were formed in Lappeenranta, Finland in 1999 by guitarist Jyri Vahvanen and bassist Miika Kokkola. The bands style is an eclectic hybrid of death, power and folk metal influences, with lyrics and imagery inspired by Tolkiens Lord of the Rings.
After issuing several demos, the band signed with Napalm Records who issued their debut album Where the Shadows Lie in 2002 to overwhelmingly positive reviews. The follow-up Swords Song appeared in 2003 to further success and saw the band embark on their first European tour. Following the 2004 release of the in-concert DVD The Journey, Tomi Mykkänen replaced Patrik Mennander as lead vocalist and the band released their third album Third Age of the Sun in 2005. The album represented a great leap forward musically and breached the top 40 album chart in the bands home country. 2007s Evernight presented a darker, more epic approach which matured further on their most recent release, 2008s The Last Alliance, the ultimate expression of the bombastic Battlelore trademark sound.

GWAR CONFIRMED FOR BLOODSTOCK OPEN AIR 2009!UK EXCLUSIVE!
The Bloodstock team are humbled beyond words to announce that Scumdogs of the Universe GWAR have been added to the bill for Bloodstock open Air 2009.
GWAR were formed in the US in 1985 and have become best known for their over the top costumes and outrageous stage antics. Although influenced by both punk and thrash, the band’s sound has shifted and evolved throughout their career as the demands of their lyrical themes and stage performances have changed. Their debut album Hell-O was released in 1988 and featured the core line-up of Oderus Urungus (lead vocals), Flattus Maximus (lead guitar), Balsac the Jaws of Death (rhythm guitar) and Beefcake the Mighty (bass guitar), characters which remain in the band today, although their costumes are not necessarily worn by the same musicians!
GWAR have issued many further albums over the years, some varying greatly in style from others, but each characterised by the band’s unique and anarchic sense of theatre and boasting titles such as America Must Be Destroyed, This Toilet Earth and We Kill Everything. Targeting celebrities and other public figures with their black comedy whilst spraying their audiences with gallons of fake bodily fluids, a GWAR gig is a performance quite unlike any other. Waterproofs and wellies are recommended.
The band are allegedly working on a new album tentatively titled Lust In Space.
The mighty Oderus would like us to pass on the following message

We'll bring the swords, you bring the bodies, and together we shall turn the slam-pit into a seething mass of DEATH not seen in Europe since the fall of Berlin! GWAR is playing BLOODSTOCK...and may the Pope choke on it!”

The Bloodstock team are delighted to announce that death metal giants CARCASS and ARCH ENEMY have been added to the bill for BOA 2009. The pair will co-headline one day of the festival and the event will mark the ONLY UK shows of 2009 for both bands!
The origins of Carcass go right back to 1985 when guitarist Bill Steer and drummer Ken Owen formed their first band together, Disattack. Bassist Jeff Walker joined in 1986 and the band soon changed their name to Carcass, issuing the legendary Flesh Ripping Sonic Torment demo the following year. The band then came to the attention of UK indie label Earache who issued their debut album Reek Of Putrefaction in 1988. Although mired by muddy production, the albums extreme sound and shocking artwork helped make it something of an overnight sensation and generated the sort of publicity which set the band on their way to becoming extreme metal legends.
The bands second album Symphonies Of Sickness, released in 1989, saw their sound begin to shift from grindcore to death metal, a trend which continued on 1991s Necroticism - Descanting The Insalubrious and which concluded with the much slicker and more straightforward Heartwork, released in 1993. By this time, Carcass had become well-established as a twin-guitar band with Swedish axeman Michael Amott having joined their ranks in 1990. In 1994, the band signed with Columbia Records, a major deal which should have allowed them to break out of the underground. Instead, Amotts departure following Heartwork, a lack of focus within the band and constant label interference culminating in a withdrawal of their support led the band to split up before their final album - 1996s Swansong - was even released.
The band eventually reformed in 2007 with drummer Daniel Erlandsson replacing Ken Owen whose illness prevented him from taking part. In the years since their original demise, Carcass influence has continued to grow making their reunion shows some of the most hotly anticipated in recent times.
ARCH ENEMY
In 1996, Michael Amott - now ex-Carcass - formed the melodic death metal band Arch Enemy, who released their debut full-length Black Earth later the same year. Although intended as a one-off project, the albums success encouraged Amott to make Arch Enemy full time, and they returned with the Stigmata album in 1998. Following 1999s Burning Bridges, frontman Johan Liiva left to be replaced by Angela Gossow and Arch Enemy found even greater success aided by the wave of media interest generated by extreme metals most high-profile female vocalist.
Wages Of Sin (2001), Anthems Of Rebellion (2003), Doomsday Machine (2005) and Rise Of The Tyrant (2007) have all seen Arch Enemy continue to expand their fan base, the latter being the bands highest charting album to date. They are currently working on an album of re-recorded songs from the pre-Gossow era.
For one night only, two of death metals biggest names are set to bring mayhem to Bloodstock in what will surely go down in festival history as a truly unforgettable spectacle.
