a: fundamental. i think there is some sort of intertwining - bands who write good music also turn out to be good lyricists, because they're good musical artists on the whole, and the message is a part of the music. i really can't think of a band with very good music and very lousy lyrics.

A: dozens. i reckon we all get much more tolerant towards stereotypical lyrics if the music is good and we tend to read more into them.
