Modern life and humans have come to depend very heavily on fossil-fuels-derived products such as high performance polymers in high-tech devices, plastics and very important surgical and medicinal tools and materials. Look around, they're everywhere. A lot of chemicals that are widely used are derived from them; and guess where most medicines and pharmaceuticals come from..

And here you have jackasses in this country buying sports utility vehicles, trucks, and high-performance cars because they simply feel the need for 'more power'
And you should come watch them right now, all shocked and practically crying because the gas prices are rising quite a bit..
EDIT: And they're still lower than they are in Europe and other parts of the world
