OH FOR FUCK'S SAKE ...

Because it was a fucking cat.

Don't police get profiles of mass murderers based on if they tortured animals as a child? Isn't this a huge warning sign? Or is he like "dude it's just a cat it doesn't matter if I rape it and torture it...it's just a cat". If you can torture ANYTHING that can show pain(whelping or w/e) you are seriously messed up and I will defitenely say that you are going to hurt more living things in your lifetime.

Remember that bit about how "you can't sentence someone based on what they might do?" The American justice system is built on the principal that people are innocent until proven guilty.

So why do we have prisons, why don't we just have massive psych wards?
Not a bad question.

If you were the judge and you had 2 cases same end result. One guy 1 day found a cat raped it and tortured it to death. Extremely simple but this gets my point across imho, and the 2nd case, this guy had a cat for over a year in his basement raped daily and tortured it often and someone found out about what was going on. Do you think both cases deserve the same jail time or is it just because it's a cat it's on the same level playing field?

edit;

and you're totally confusing sentencing someone of a crime and charging. Get it right dood.

ffs...
Obviously they're different cases.
However, neither deserve 15 years in jail.

I disagree with the sentence but cruelty towards animals is usually a sign for serious problems that could lead to violence against people. I think treatment would be a better option than punishment in this case.
Thank you.

Everyone realizes that there's no way in hell this kid's getting 15 years, right?

That isn't based solely on what they might have done, though. It's based on the premise that they knew that something was going to happen and they didn't do anything to stop it.

Say you and I are walking down the street and we randomly start joking about how we're going to rob the nearest convenience store or something. If no one does anything afterwards, then no one is liable for anything. However, say I were to rob it the day after I was talking to you about it, you would be charged with 'Conspiracy to Commit Robbery' if they found out about our conversation

In the criminal law, a conspiracy is an agreement between natural persons to break the law at some time in the future, and, in some cases, with at least one overt act in furtherance of that agreement. There is no limit on the number participating in the conspiracy and, in most countries, no requirement that any steps have been taken to put the plan into effect (compare attempts which require proximity to the full offence). For the purposes of concurrence, the actus reus is a continuing one and parties may join "the plot" later and incur joint liability and conspiracy can be charged where the co-conspirators have been acquitted and/or cannot be traced. Finally, repentance by one or more parties does not affect liability but may reduce their sentence.

poor cat. thats seriously messed up

but they seriously charged him for sodomy? wtf?!
~gR~

Yeah, that is why it is possible for him to get so many years in prison.
