First off, what's with the Zorro the Gay Blade pickguard? I guess I have a warped image association?

Why does Gibson keep trying to make new models? They have the SG, V, Explorer, Les Paul, 335, LP Junior and the 8,000 variations of those they already make that somehow they still manage to sell for over $2000 and they haven't made a descent new design since the
MkIII IMO and that was even kinda iffy. Does Fender make up new shit? No, they still have their same 4-5 guitars. They were at least smart enough to buy Jackson and put that name on anything "wild" that failed so they wouldn't soil their rep. 15 years ago I tried to like Gibson but walking into a store and seeing a brand new Les Paul Classic for $2500 and seeing cracked clear coat around the bridge studs, some kind of gunk ( maybe buffing compound? ) caked around the pickup rings and it was heavy and awkward to boot. No thanks... The Parker Fly next to it, flawless masterpiece. I know it's all preference but you gotta recognize some designs for their innovations, intelligent design features and craftsmanship even if they aren't too easy on the eyes. I think Music Man guitars are a good example of great craftsmanship yet they haven't made an exceptional body style yet. However, they have taken existing ones and refined them about as much as they can be refined. Short of a total redesign. Screw marketing and screw that whole 'He's got one and I gotta have one' mentality. Move on people. Evolve. Rocks and sticks were cool back in the day, 100,000 years ago but now we have guns and F-22 jets. Yeah, they all kill shit but if you really wanted to kill, a lot, what would you pick?

Side note: Why do catalogs like AMS and MusiciansFriend bother putting pages of pictures after picture after picture of Les Pauls and Strats that look nearly identical except for pickup configs, neck shapes and finishes, most of which aren't even visually obvious and then only 6 identical guitars from any other company that might have 12 different unique body styles? I know, advertising dollars, sponsorships, etc... It just annoys the hell out of me. Can you tell? In recent years I've come to learn that if you want anything good, you can't just walk into a retail store and get it in most cases. It won't be on AMS or sweetwater.com, the good stuff is hidden like truth and logic in an American government. Them silly white people.
