1.) did you wear a backpatch to high school and what did ppl think of it
Yeah I did, Master of Puppets & Killing is My Business... People?! Ah fuck them!!
I must say my mother flipped!!!!
2.) where you the only metalhead at your school?
No, there were many, but they were called "Stoners." Me, I got along with everyone. The necks, jocks, ect. I was a very good student, was in sports, liked metal & was known to drink with the nexks from time to time....
3.) in any one class, did you ever doodle more band logos than take notes?
Yeah, I think it was health class, I remember I once drew this killer Dokken & Maiden logo....
4.) was there a band within the school?
Yeah, in fact I used to jam with the band, I was never part of the band, however, I conviced them once to play Master of Puppets & Dr. Feelgood with the school band... You should have heard that!!!!!
5.) did you ever cut class to get an album in it's release date or to see a show?
Yeah my first time was Dec. 8th 1986, I went to see Roth in the dead pf Winter.
It was my B-Day present from my father! He has a blast too... And he isn't a rock fan. He was just as amazed by the openers Cinderella. I was allowed to stay home the next day...

I was 22 when I started to wear a patch jacket. I guess some people thought I was weird.. They were right! :)

Anyway nobody ever bother me about it. My mother even sowed some patches on my denim jacket for me...

Here favorite band in the early 80s was Accept :headbang:

1. YES! People thought it was cool, because they KNEW I was cool! :D

2. No, there were a bunch of us, and we ran the place!

3. All the time!

4. Yes.

5. A BUNCH of times!

Metal and music are my LIFE! :worship:

Cheers!
:headbang: :headbang: :headbang:

Í grew up in the same town as Europe, and everyone was into metal in those days.
I had the longest hair and was the only one that dind't had a patch or a bulletbelt and stuff.
When they all listen to Motley or Wasp and shit like that...don't get me wrong I'm a motley and a wasp fan to the bone, but I started to play Helloweens walls, Slayer and frost and Exciter back in 83...don't forget Saxon!!

They all dind't understand how I could listen to that stuff and had Judas, Led and deep purple shirts.

To answer one of you questions, I dind't skip class for an release but I climbed the fences when I was in the army to see a Manowar consert. You can't belive the problems I got with my captain when I returned after 2 days. (I was with my girlfriend and slept over....)

1.) did you wear a backpatch to high school and what did ppl think of it? Yes, I proudly have a Savatage-"Hall Of The Mountain King" backpatch on the back of my denim jacket. People think it's awesome, but "who's Savatage?"
2.) where you the only metalhead at your school? No, I found a group of them. A couple groups actually, and maybe some people who listen to SOME metal, but not a whole lot of dedicated metalheads. But it didn't matter to me, I got along with just about everyone, though I tended to hang out with the less "popular" people, as I felt more comfortable around them.
3.) in any one class, did you ever doodle more band logos than take notes? YES! just about all of them! But mostly inEnglish class. And i STILL manged to pass it. With a C, but it's still passing. My favorites to draw were Anthrax, Kreator, Savatage, Iron Maiden, the Sad Wings/Sin After Sin Priest logo,Obituary, Dokken, Testament, Iced Earth and the Queensryche TriRyche logo.
4.) was there a band within the school? Yes. A shitload of punk bands, and just a few metalbands. Actually, according to some of my friends who are still in high school(I graduated last year), there were more metal bands this time around than anything else. Interesting.
5.) did you ever cut class to get an album in it's release date or to see a show? Yes. I ditched PE to pick up Savatage's "Poets And Madmen". I'm glad i did, not only did I get a great album out of it, but I got a girl's number too.;) I also cut RTV 100 Lab this past October to go see Helloween and Jag Panzer in Santa Ana, CA. GREAT SHOW! Both bands ruled, and me and my friends got to meet all of Jag Panzer and Michael Weikath of Helloween after the show!

1) Yes, It had Venom on the Back, Satan and Slayer on the front. So no, people didn't like it :heh:
2) No, there were a few of us, they started a Metal mag called "sucks".
3) Yes, I still have some papers as proof, and I think some school seats also still have my artwork..
4) not that I was aware of, not metal anyway...
5) I cut class several times, hell, even one time with a teacher! (really !!) . Mostly to visit our favorit rock pub.

1. No, I'm a poser
2. Yes and no, one of my school mates got me into Metal, but I couldn't find any Metal friends later on, or very rarely. As I'm a calm person, people didn't believe me when I told them what I listened to, ha!
3. I remember doing it during a particular French class yeah, the teacher was soooooo boring...
4. Only some Hardcore bands, but it wasn't my cup of tea.
5. To go to a show yep, it happened a couple of times :kickass:

3.i was always incredibly lousy at art,but i did doodle a few things, mainly during chemistry lessons.
4.i was in the band at school, thats where i started.while we were at school,we were pretty bad,but we got better.
5.metallica-and justice for all.i got out of school at lunchtime, picked up the album, and didnt go back in,just went home.one and only time i ever did it. :D

3) I did draw band logos, I can't say I did that more than take notes though.
4) Yes, but it was a Pop band.
5) No.

1. No, I did buy an Iron Maiden "Killers" one but never sewed it on for some reason.

2. Oh no. I went for two years in upstate New York and almost EVERYONE was a metalhead. The jocks were all into Irom Maiden and the stoners were into Exodus and Testament and Megadeth. Everyone else was into the glam scene. It was a wonderful time.

3. Yes! I became very good at doing Metallica, Iron Maiden, Anthrax, Megadeth and Slayer and I had many, many pages to prove it.

4. In New York, yes. There were many and most were metal. The school was massive and had soundproof rooms with a small stage and people would bring in their instruments and practice in there all the time. There was no study hall. It was a free period and you could roam freely throughout the school so a lot of people went to those rooms to play. They also often did concerts which were cool to see. All of those bands were metal too.

5. No. :(

1.) We had to wear uniforms , I did have a denim jacket with a backpatch of the Appetite for distruction scullcross on. It didn't say G'n'R anywhere so people that didn't now it probably thought I was Satan's spawn. I airbrushed the Histeria albumcover on my schoolbag and I wasn't allowed to take it into one teacher's class.
2.) Thank God no, I would have had my ass kicked, there was a few of us, they called us coffinkids, we weren't the popular sporting-asskissing bunch. It was cool though, it's an all boys school so no one had to be impressed.
3.)Fuck yes! In all of them, you could spot my desk a mile away, it was always at the back of the class and it probably looked better than some Maidencovers (I wish)
4.)Yes two, our band's name was Aggrivator, I played the base. The other more poular band were a bunch of fuckasses who played Bob Dylan covers.
5.)No, there was sanctions against South Africa untill 1994 because of apartheid and crap so no bands toured S.A.I saw Def Leppard in "95 though the day after we matriculated. As for albums on the release dates?, now there's a fuckin joke our coustims didn't allow the Use your illusions through for almost a year because of the "language".. We are ten fuckin years behind the rest of the world. Luckely back then my girlfriend was aupairing in Germany so she sent me some good shit, our Metalhammers are three months late(if you are lucky enough to find one) All I have to say is THANK GOD FOR THIS SITE :headbang: :headbang:

1) Impossible the concentration camp I went (like all schools in the country) have a uniform, long hair for males was prohibited, and even the color of the pins women were in her hairdos was coded (no shit!).

2) No, by 1983 (11th grade) we were three :p

3) Sure. 11th grade, I still have the portfolio :D

4) rubber bands only :loco:

5) In Stalag 17? Are you nuts, the fucking grounds had more defenses than the CIA headquarters. Parents and buses had special passes to enter the place to pick up the students. The fence had barbed wire on the top. We were stuck 7:00-14:00 in that damn fucking hellhole.
Besides there was no gigs (and still don't), and as for albums I ask my parents for money on the weekend to purchase them ;) .

Once (and only once) my friend Abraham and I make pressure over the student council to bring a rock band (only covers) for the highschool festival. And were some parents checking the event and they had the light of the gym on, was so stupid, sissy behavior that I went with Abraham and another guy to the control room and put down the breakers. The parents were pissed but the didn't know where the breaker was :heh:

Nah I was already a born again at the end of highschool, but growing in the metal faith came next year with college :headbang:

1.) no. didn't have the big backpatches until after hs. still have these classics collecting dust atm, too: Iron Maiden, Live After Death; Metallica, Kill 'Em All; Megadeth, Killing Is My Business And Business Is Good

2.) i think not. at the time it was jocks, stoners/rockers, and nerds. i fell somewhere between all three at different times during hs. :D

3.) band logos not so much but song lyrics, with and without intentional and unintentional mondegreens, yes,
loco.gif
during "study hall" - not one of the formal classes

4.) don't know for sure. it's possible there may have been some that i was not aware of at the time. but, i do remember our senior year hs band doing Alice Cooper's School's Out at one of the pep rallies before graduation. there was a guitarist, bassist and drummer in addition to the traditional band so there's a good chance there were some "rock band guys" in my school, but I cannot recall their names today.

5.) no. however, i did quit my first summer job at Dairy Queen to see Rush for the first time.
headbob.gif
hadn't been working there very long and ended up getting another (better) job later anyway. what the hell? it was my first job ever and i was still a teen living at home. :heh:

Wyvern did you mean in Costa Rica about the uniforms? I remember that when i visited CR as a kid the girls looked cute in those uniforms lol ... Man i miss CR.. havent been there since this past Dec/Jan but the good part is my sisters are coming for a visit sometime soon.. i do see teens here and there wear metal shirts after school though... when i was there... i was surprised to see so because i never remembered that back in the 80's..

answer these questions 5

1.) did you wear a backpatch to high school and what did ppl think of it

I had concert tees but in high school, I usually wore a "Bama" jacket. Much like Sixx, I was a pretty good student as well as an athlete.

2.) where you the only metalhead at your school?

I was in high school in the early - mid-eighties. There were many metalheads, but most of them were into the hair metal. I liked some of those bands as well, but I was the only one into Dio and Priest and Yngwie and one of the first I knew into Metallica even though I didn't "discover" them until Puppets.

3.) in any one class, did you ever doodle more band logos than take notes?

Though I was a decent student I hated history and English. I did whatever I could to keep from paying attention in those classes.

4.) was there a band within the school?

I was in a band called Cuff, but only one other member was school age. The others were a few years older than us.

5.) did you ever cut class to get an album in it's release date or to see a show?

I cut a whole day when Dio "Sacred Heart" came out and drove to Columbus Georgia and bought it.

Except for some old schools (pun intended) that have permission of the Ministry of Education to wear their own uniform (still a uniform) every kid on public or private schools must wear light blue shirt, blue pants/skirt and black shoes as reglamentary uniform. I believe also a couple of shcools mainly for US residents that work with the US system don't wear uniform at all.
In the early 80's when I finished highschool was like that, I hadn't check much lately.

Now that I'm 37 I found the girls cute in their uniforms too...:Smokedev:
