One line (or few) in some lyrics that striked you most and why?

One shadow of beauty caressing the flowers
The paleness of winter reflects in her eyes

Deity of stardom
Enticer of stardoom
So soft and so silent
Maternal - eternal
Serenity fades
Blinded by visions of sunlight (nocturnal)
With the darkening of skies

The fascists and their many guises
Anarchists and their fantasizing
It seems sometimes they're sailing the same boat
Politicians mesmerizing throngs of automated souls
As some similar psycho's screwing on the scope

I'm leaving town
To join sophisticates in my head
We'll have our fun playing the hypocrite critic
And when all the creatures in their palaces are crushed
I can safely say "I'm coming home"

Fairy tales and fruitless fortunes
Acquired from some sad story teller
Can sometimes be enough to keep me mum in my keep
Organ grinders orating overtures of madness
As the heinous hipster's spending his unearned currency

There may be many ways of reaching the same plateau
I'll take the road less traveled
If it looks like it ain't been sold
The chains around my neck won't break
But at least they're made of solid gold

First i wanted to post only a few line but finally i post the entire Away delight away lyrics cause this song is simply to hot also the way Mikael sings it!

Away, Delight, Away

as blind as our eyes
our minds refuse to see
they claw for the falseness in me
from where all life
springs anew
we are cleansed
through the crystal fire

fill me with sound
fill me with hatred
let my blood bring life to the soil
the soil beneath my feet

messenger of pain
sailing silence
commander of my sorrow
riding rage

reaching my blood and
leaving me

infinity's eternal
never born
so it may never die
colours speak my name
through the crowns i am baptized in the
first gnawing rays
from a blackened sun
in the name of my blood i curse thee
shelter me
under the trees
spread your twilight wings
for me

my broken body
dripping with sin

your skin so delicate
in taste
your undemanding bliss
will carry me far

-i bid farewell
to this godforsaken land
nevermore shall i return
i join with the riders on the horizon-
for they are my blood
they are my saviours

they bring me hatred, bring me fire
bring the aches upon me
bring me down to the land i know not
they crush me
bring me down
then they build me once more again

slayer of my anger
sailing silence
the angel of my lust
she is
tasting shame

taste the pain

I'll make a nod to the NIN lyrics (which will be reinforced soon :) ), I absolutely love that song and that album - The Fragile is one of my top ten albums ever, maybe even top five. It's really good.

My contribution:

"the farther I fall, I'm beside you;
as lost as I get, I will find you;
the deeper the wound, I'm inside you;
for ever and ever I am a part of [you]"

- Nine Inch Nails - "We're In This Together"

The "you" in brackets kicks off the chorus (which is soaring and practically screamed). This part of the song means/meant a lot to me in the context of the relationship with my current significant other. For all you naysayers, I do realize the "emo"/angstyness connotations of the song, but I don't care, I'm very tongue and cheek about it anyway :p. I still think they are beautiful in and outside the context of a generally great song.

Nevermore "Passenger"

All passenger prepare the game ritual:
There once was a man on this train, he was born into this world alone
Hands never laid on the wheel, content, he will never know more
He was a quiet man in pain, his tears I fear are closing in again
What you lose in years you again in perspective
And the passenger pauses to see his mistakes
For with nothing to follow he'd lived all his life in vain
But then, who here among us is without shame?
His way was divergent and cold, defaced, this mask he must create
And the circle unfolding still, unscathed, he will turn a blind eye
He will miss the last train home this day, recycled in the flow reborn again
The cynic knows the price of everything and the value of nothing
And the passenger pauses to see his mistakes
For with nothing to follow he'd let all his will decay
But then, true wisdom comes in learning pain
And I have known pain
And the passenger pauses to see his mistakes
For with nothing to follow he'd lived all his life in vain
But then, the lesson unlearned he will begin again:.

Probably one of my favorite songs lyrically, regarding a man who sits idly through life waiting for people to make decisions and choices for him... I always listen to it when im feeling down, because i feel like i have the opportunity to take charge and make something of myself, whereas the character in the lyrics doesnt learn anything from the mistakes of his past and just continues on in a bleak existence.

And you still think that you're God.
You are nothing more than a human sculpture
made of filth and disgrace.

You are nothing more than a human sculpture!
Made of filth!
And disgrace!

And you still think that you're God.
You are nothing more than a human sculpture
made of filth and disgrace.

You are nothing more than a human sculpture!
Made of filth!
And disgrace!

Hooray for Shade Empire! I love ...Ja Pimeys Lasketui, even though I have no idea what they are saying.

Pretty much all of Dragged Across a Forest Floor by Woods of Ypres reminds me of the town I grew up in, but this line is my favourite:

"Saved only by the unconditional love
Of hate for a place they couldn't live without"

Right at this moment:

Don't ya think that you need somebody
Don't ya think that you need someone
Everybody needs somebody
You're not the only one
You're not the only one

(Guns N' Roses - November Rain)

Of DT, this line from Hedon has always made me shiver:

We look at you,
afraid to see what we really are

-Villain

DT:
"What eyesight fails to grasp is the emptiness from which i fed"

I like it because it sounds cool and i would never have been able to come up with something like this. I also like how Stanne delivers that line, and that melody that goes along in that song

Dissection:
"A heart dies - drowning in the nights blood".

Same reasons as above (except "Stanne")

I also like:
"That time-bomb encoded in our DNA"
(Sorry, I hope I remember this right)

I think this holds so much truth and it's also a very elegant and poetic way of saying that the human race is about to extinguish themselves.
BTW. These are the words of almighty Sundin, although appearing in an In Flames song

Villain - that one line is probably the reason why I've loved that song for as long as I have. It's truly gripping, and a lot more though-provoking than I initially expected.

Well, that and I used to sing the song in my head all the time to pump myself out while running races. I found it very fun to suddenly start singing out loud very softly around the point I'd get to 'wineskin', and then suddenly start really growling out "Open free the pain!". Made a hell of a lot of sense while running, and had the added bonus of freaking the shit out of the people around me.

As far as lyrics from other bands go, Katatonia is probably second on my list of great lyrics. Of course, the one that still gets me to this day is in my sig, but that whole song really touches me.
