People obviously hear different things. Enslaved's production qualities are for the most part excellent. "Eld" drumming is way to tinny sounding, and maybe it's jut me, but my copy of "Monumension" sounds "muddy." For Enslaved's compositional structure I believe that "Below the Lights", "Isa" and "Runn" all contain superb production technique. Listen to what they are doing, and you might understand the reason for that type of production. As far as musicianship, Enslaved are certainly some of the better players in metal.Period.

There's no doubting that technical ability usually plays a part in musicianship, but I certainly don't think it's the majority of the aspect.

Also, I just acquired the Hordanes Land split, and WOW these tracks are much better than I thought they would be. It's like listening to new Enslaved or somethin'.
