Mikael talks about Deliverance and Damnation, and says that he made Deliverance to keep all the fans that thought Opeth were "selling-out" happy. I thought Mikael didn't care about what the fans wanted, and only writ the music for himself? Hmm...
Well I define selling out as making music for the masses, not for yourself... so I figure if that's the case then Deliverance really did sell out. But Mikael has strange ways of phrasing things and having done countless interviews I suppose he needs to add some variety here and there.
Maybe that is why it seems so unlike Opeth. It was forced and didn't have the same beauty as previous releases. Next time he shouldn't write something for anyone, maybe then it won't suck.
