Opeth-Watershed

then your calling a moonlit forest shit. because orchid is a moonlit forest, in the form music.

lol ok

I sampled about 12-15 minutes of Watershed this evening and it sucked. Where the fuck is the metal? There was some poll on the Opeth board on favorite songs, and Burden was the winner. That song is vagina personified. Opeth was a lot of things, but not vagina (until now). WHERE ARE THE METAL SONGS?! I'm pretty fucking dissatisfied with the new album, so far, and I doubt I'll change my mind.

The last one was kind of shitty also.

:erk:

I think you've pretty much nailed it despite not having heard the whole thing. It's full of pubescent lyrics and prog rock cliche. I don't mind about the lack of metal but when they write things like Burden (2nd rate Pink Floyd) I'm not interested. What is that wanky out-of-tune crap at the end?

Heir Apparent is the only decent song there

So, uhmm, if I don't really care for Blackwater Puppets, I mean, Master of Parks, well, you know what I mean, gateway album, burnt out on that stuff, and I don't like Still Life, is there a chance
I'll like Opeth? Those are the only two albums I've heard from the band.

I don't understand your hatred of Burden. Quite honestly, it's the best prog-rock song they've composed since Windowpane. It completely wipes the floor with all the filler shit on GR and a majority of the songs on Damnation, and is quite enjoyable with numerous repeat plays much like Harvest. I'd prefer to hear something like Burden over Atonement, Isolation Years, and Hours of Wealth. Let's not forget this is arguably Mike's best clean vocal performance ever, in which he used a completely different vocal style and nailed it.

As for the best song on Watershed, the answer is clearly Hessian Peel. A prototypical Opeth song encompassing everything they do best.

My biggest beef with the entire album is the lackluster drum performance by Axenrot. I just knew once I heard he was joining the band that he wouldn't mesh with Opeth's sound like Lopez did. Opeth and Lopez were like a fucking glove man. Axe plays way too sloppy at times, and often just completely tries copying Lopez's techniques and fails miserably at them. If Mike has ever done anything wrong, it was picking Axenrot as his drummer. :(

Agreed on Burden, totally disagree on the drumming. I think he did a very good job. But then again I haven't been analyzing every little detail of his playing.

I'd say it's possible but not very likely. Check out their first two albums (Orchid and Morningrise) if you want some stuff with less mass-appeal. You should also check out My Arms, Your Hearse since that seems to be the cult classic. Well, I guess their first two would be more kvlt, but MAYH is heavier.

try one of the first two 'cause they're different, the songwriting is far worse though lol. MAYH is like a much better version of still life

His drumming would sound way better if it wasn't for his skins setup, they sound like someone has spilled a bottle of milk all over them and then he's decided to play. But he IS a good drummer.

This bands new material is starting to suck I'm glad they made that song heir aparent with what seems to be lower production value cause it sounds sick. That single they had with the music video put me to sleep.
