This one and Morningrise are the only Opeth albums I like. Sorry, but I guess I just don't get the big hype about this band.

I dont either like Orchid that much and i absolutely love Morningrise. I think many think Orchid sounds a bit like a less mature Morningrise.

IMO Orchid is better. Both albums would be flawless if not for the fact that Black Rose Immortal should have ended about 7 minutes earlier than it does.

Orchid is one amazing epic riff after another - which is precisely what they forgot to put in Watershed. True it's got the most disjointed transitions but I can forgive that. And forget all these mellow instrumental sections in their newer albums; 'Silhouette' shits all over them.

I sampled about 12-15 minutes of Watershed this evening and it sucked. Where the fuck is the metal? There was some poll on the Opeth board on favorite songs, and Burden was the winner. That song is vagina personified. Opeth was a lot of things, but not vagina (until now). WHERE ARE THE METAL SONGS?! I'm pretty fucking dissatisfied with the new album, so far, and I doubt I'll change my mind.

The last one was kind of shitty also.

I gave this album its first listen last night. It seems like a logical evolution from the Del/Dam era, but with more keyboards and experimentation. Plenty of fresh ideas and plenty of throwbacks to the mid period. That said, this is certainly a lighter album than previous ones. I was half asleep listening to it so I'll give it more alert listens to see where it takes me. The question of whether this is Metal or not isn't going to bother me. If it turns out to be a good piece of music to listen to, then I'll be satisfied. So far, it needs to grow on me a lot more.
