It's a metal album for people who only sort of like metal, and are really just into gay prog shit.

You couldn't be more wrong. It's a metal album for people who only sort of like metal, and are really just into gay prog shit.
every opeth tread i've ever seen just turns into a list of peoples favorite opeth albums..
How? I was at the Opeth forum for quite some time. The people who liked Still Life almost never liked actual death or black metal. They all listened to prog, and Opeth was one of a handful of metal bands they liked. Most of the people who are on the Opeth board do not primarily listen to metal. Those who do regularly listen to extreme metal list MAYH, BWP or Morningrise as their favorites. You couldn't be more wrong.
Yeah, that's one thing that really struck me about the album. Those growls are fucking incredible. Too bad there's only like 30 seconds of them on the whole fucking album.
orchid is terribly written, and morningrise is basically a gayer orchid. still life is flowery and pretentious as fuck, so many of those riffs are mind-bogglingly shit
Hessian Peel and Hex Omega are the only two tracks on that album that suck. The other 5 are solid
if you are listening to opeth to hear compositional brilliance, you are bound for disappointment.
the guitar tone, epic vast feel of orchid and morningrise are why they eclipse all of the other albums by miles.
There is no denying that their music has developed a distinct formula.

Agreed. The only song I find boring is Porcelain Heart.No. Hessian Peel is by far the best track on the album and has the best section on the entire album around 4:15.
Best tracks.
