Orphaned Land / Suidakra US tour???

Do you guys think that the Chicago stop would do better if it was in Skokie? There's a reason why Mago de Oz draws huge amounts of Latinos at the Aragon. I'd like to see them draw that much if they played Naperville.

Too many older Jews in Skokie (IE - my grandparents lived there).

You may want to go more of the Northbrook / Buffalo Grove / Highland Park route.

As I said, I don't think you will get Chicago non-metal Jews unless you specifically advertise in the local Jewish newspapers. Not sure who would bear that expense. Furthermore, I think the better question is if the venue itself views this as a potential "cultural" event. Considering the Bottom Lounge primarily hosts punk shows, and now caters to metal to fill the present void, it's just another show to them.

I actually don't think it will be that high, but even if it is, it goes to my original point; this tour won't draw (outside of NYC, where anyone can draw).

I suspect it might draw quite well in the DC area, if they don't make the stupid mistake of bypassing Jaxx and playing at Sonar. (DC people who have a casual interest will *not* drive to Baltimore for this.)

The Bottom Lounge is great.
...

. The only downfall is the lack of public transportation by it. The Green and Blue lines go by there but you are screwed if you dont live by those lines. Drivers have it easy with parking and stuff though.

I'm not sure I follow you... if you can get on any train line in Chicago, you can get to this show with a single transfer. They all connect in the loop, and it's a free transfer. The fact that this place is 3 blocks from the Green/Pink line means it's one of the better places to get to by public transit... and it's only 2 stops outside the loop, so it's not a long ride if you do have to transfer.

And even Metra stations are a short 2 block walk to connect to CTA trains, so people who want to go that way should be covered. About the only thing to worry about is the last train time for Metra... which might be about 12:30 for some train lines.

sure you can transfer but it all takes time.

Shows in Chicago RARELY go very late. At the absolute latest, they will get out at midnight which has happened to me only twice, Malmsteen and Queensryche at HOB. There's no reason one can't make it. Whether you do metra and walk or do CTA, or if you're truly paranoid, one taxi ride back isn't gonna rape you if you're with a group.

well my freind....welcome to the world of Reggies and Bottom Lounge. Almost all Reggies shows get out at 2 AM. They dont even start till like 9:30 PM. The Bottom Lounge too. They start a bit later. Since they cater to the over 21 crowd.

All depends on the age limit of each show. I saw Ace Frehley at the HOB, I left around 12:30 am and he was still playing but the show was 21+. Everytime I've been to Reggie's I've left pass 1am.

Yeah I hear ya, it seems that in this area people literally find an excuse not to go to shows.

Maybe... but this one is listed as starting at 7pm (I've never been there so I don't know how the club runs). Of course there's multiple openers... well, it's no problem for me, so I'll be getting tickets shortly. But I just wanted people to realize that if they're on the Brown, Red or Blue Lines that they can figure this is only about 10-15 minutes longer than going to the loop.

All depends on the age limit of each show.

Finally the right answer! If you only go to all-ages shows, then yeah, they all end early. They're required to, due to Chicago's curfew law. Otherwise, not so much. Of all the independent clubs, Reggie's actually has the most early-ending shows, because it has the biggest all-ages focus. Looks like Bottom Lounge has 8pm as the default start time for most 17+ (the curfew-free age) shows, which also puts it earlier than places like the Empty Bottle or Schuba's/Lincoln Hall, where 9pm/10pm starts are the norm, so getting out after 1am is quite common for me.

And thankfully, unlike the suburban metal clubs of yore, there's almost no guesswork involved. All the clubs list the start times on their websites, and they basically all start predictably these days (first notes are played 15-30 minutes after the listed start time). Bottom Lounge included, from my experience. Many clubs now even post the exact start and end times for each band at the door, which is awesome.

So point is, no need to generalize and speculate about Orphaned Land ending late. Five bands, starts at 6pm (according to bottomlounge.com), assume 30 minutes for openers, 45 for middles, 90 for Orphaned Land, 15-minute changeovers, and that puts you at 10:30-11:30 for the end.

Definitely an odd lineup though, especially if Indian actually plays between Suidakra and Orphaned Land as currently listed. Opener Via Vengeance:
"a one man punk band!"? The quote pulled for OL is kind of odd too: "The loudest, heaviest and most controversial music on earth can act as a universal language." Sure, it's in their bio, but it doesn't even strictly refer to them.

Actually, yes, they all are., having gotten that answer from Kobi.

Interesting. I based my statement on an interview I did with Kobi back in 2005. He mentioned that although they all come from jewish backgrounds, they didn't consider themselves jewish in the religious sense.

The bigger problem is that Jewish does not necessarily mean being Metal friendly.

That is absolutely correct. As in Christian and Muslim as well.
