Orphaned Land / Suidakra US tour???

Ordered my tix. I also agree on the price, $10 is way too low, $25 would still be a good deal. The venue is probably clueless on how to price something like this. I'll buy at least one shirt to support the bands and I know I'm good for 5-10 beers though, so the venue will get some cash out of me!

they know with a 25 dollar ticket price that these bands will not draw people in. With a lower door price you will get casual people who are on the fence with going. The guys who run the Bottom Lounge have been doing shows longer than most people on this forum have listened to metal.

>>People are complaining because a price is too low?
Because (they think) some promoter isn't charging en<<

I'm not complaining, I'll gladly pay $10. As a business man who primarily buys and sells in a niche market similar to the metal scene at times, it seems an odd move. I have a vested interest in seeing the metal scene thrive and succeed since its been my main hobby for over 20 years. With all the problems with pirating and what not, touring and merch is the one area these bands have left to make money. If they charge too little and the venues, bands, etc, don't make a profit, there will be less tours, less bands making this sort of music, recording quality will go down, etc.

I don't believe that very many more people will go at $10 vs $25, but I think the proof will be in the attendance, if the show has 150+, and they aren't all 25 years+ wearing an Orphaned Land shirt, then I'll stand corrected, if not, most of them would have come anyway, IMO.

NobleKnight - I agree with you 100%

This show has a VERY niche audience.
The target audience for this show would pay a LOT more than $10 for it.

All I can think is that the booking agent must have only asked for a percentage of the door as opposed to a flat guarantee. With a $10 ticket price for an international band, a club would need their head examined to agree to a guarantee.

I'm amazed that even BB Kings is only $15 ($19 day of show). They usually make sure to hike the price up for metal bands. If only it wasn't a Monday.

dang...that is odd. Hopefully they can make thier money on these 3 shows.

If they're doing SXSW, it's not about the money (at least initially). While there are big names that play, it's an industry show so they're likely going there to get noticed, rub elbows with promoters and such. You have to fill out an application & upload music & press releases that a committee reviews and scores. Bands with the best scores get sent an invitation to play. I'm pretty sure they don't get money for it.
The Chicago & NYC dates were probably just added on since they were already making the trip.

Maybe for a VERY small handful of bands.
No signed band ever fills out an app or uploads music to get invited.
The label gets you there.

Not sure in the case of Orphaned Land, as I am sure they are not appearing at SxSw to try to get signed. How much bigger than Century Media in the States can a band of their genre of metal get?

Word I got is that there are no other dates for OL other than Chicago, NYC, and SXSW.

Ah, it all makes a bit more sense now.

As big as Mastodon, or Opeth, I guess? I'd imagine that it's not just bands marketing themselves to labels, but labels marketing their bands to concert promoters, the press, etc.

True, I guess my point is that I highly doubt the band filled out any app or submitted any songs. They are most likely there of Century Media's doing.

I suspect it might draw quite well in the DC area, if they don't make the stupid mistake of bypassing Jaxx and playing at Sonar. (DC people who have a casual interest will *not* drive to Baltimore for this.)

I don't know. The Jewish communities that I know of in the area are in Maryland, specifically around Wheaton.

Granted, I have a vested interest in the show being at Jaxx, since I only live 10 minutes from there. :headbang:

Pikesville, on the west edge of Baltimore City, is one of the largest Jewish communities in the *country*. A friend of mine chose to go to school at Johns Hopkins for that reason.

I'm not sure I've met any metalheads from that area, though. heh. I'd sure as hell go to an OL show at Jaxx, though, if I still lived in the area...

Once again, you guys are making an assumption that playing near a Jewish community means anything.

Will the club / promoter / band take out ads in local Jewish publications?

Masses of Jews didn't attend Matisyahu concerts, and he had the machine (IE - mainstream media, MTV, etc) in his corner.

To be honest, if you wanted to market OL on cultural appeal, the best touring route would be to hit up the liberal college market.

I read on blabbermouth that Suidakra will be annoucing more dates but it didnt say that OL was gonna be on the dates.

German melodic folk/death metallers SUIDAKRA have scheduled the following North American tour dates in March:

Mar. 08 - New York, NY - B.B. King Blues Club & Grill
Mar. 10 - Montreal, QC - Les Foufounes Electriques
Mar. 13 - Toronto, ON - Wreck Room
Mar. 14 - Chicago, IL - Bottom Lounge

More shows will be added soon.

SUIDAKRA's ninth album, "Crógacht", was released in the U.S. in March 2009 through Wacken Records/SPV.
