OT: The Dark Knight

I really didn't know they were making a movie of it when I posted that above. That's a crazy coincidence. Have you guys read it? Its from the guy who did Swamp Thing and V For Vendetta. Its a total mind fuck. Not just a super hero comic, very tripped out.

Hey Frank Miller did a sequel, The Dark Knight Strikes Again from 2001-2002. Check it out:

I just ordered it. I can't wait to read it. I think I will re-read the original Dark Knight first. I hope its hits me as hard as it did back in 1988.

I haven't seen the film yet. Batman should be portrayed a little more of a psycho than they do. Hes a little too nice and lovable in the movies. Batman should be a bit more obsessed with avenging his parents and much more emotionally distraught than Hollywood seems to portray.

Oh thats good then. Batman should not be so lovable. We love him but hes mentally deranged sort of. Hes obsessed. Especially the Frank Miller version. In one comic series, he makes Batman verbally and physically abuse Robin. That actually is a diversion of the original series though. I think I'll go see it tonight. I'll let you know what I think. Has anyone here actually read any of Frank Miller's Batman? This is probably what influenced the films. You have to read The Dark Knight Returns. I promise you it will blow you away. The Killing Joke is a very good short graphic novel with lots of sick Joker stuff. He rapes the commissioner's daughter then shows the Commisoner pictures of it.

I just saw it. Very good, but I didn't love it. Here's my review:

Pros- Best Joker ever. Heath Ledger really did an incredible Joker inside out! He had the best dialogue in the film. Absolutely genius acting.

Cons- For me, lots. I thought a lot of mediocre dialogue and one thing was missing for me, and it is so strong in Batman, and that is his purpose. He just didn't have that Batman purpose, like to avenge his parents. I like gadgets. He didn't show off any gadgets besides the sonar cell phone deal, but that didn't really do it for me.

I thought not enough comic like stuff happened. It was so much in our world, it didn't have the comic fantasy that Tim Burton had or the Spiderman movies had. I guess that is cool in itself, but I, personally, prefer the more comic like stuff.

The Joker had makeup on. The Joker got his face like that from falling into toxic chemicals. Not make up.

2-Face lasted a total of, uh, 1 week then dies?

The fighting scenes and motorcycle stuff was awesome! The Batmobile was like Frank Miller's version. I just didn't think enough cool stuff happened outside of the usual cops and robbers stuff though. Take off the costume and replace him with Jason Stathom or Steven Seagul its pretty similar. I think they should have had more Batman schtick.

Not enough good Joker schemes either.

I found it a very flat script. Not much depth to it.

Overall, a very enjoyable film and well worth the money, but could have been much better with some more creativity and character depth. I liked the Spiderman films, all 3 of them, much better. Batman isn't jst a hero with a mask, he is of a different universe, and Christopher Nolan did not take me into that universe tonight.

I'm still waiting for the proper Batman film.

I'm amazed that there is so much interest in this.

I dont know if its a cultural thing, I guess comic books are a tad more popular in the US than the UK.

I really dont think I shall go see this movie, I was not impressed with batman the beginning and I think the only other one I saw was the one was the first one with the joker in.

I feel the same about the Spiderman movies too, I saw the first one and thought it was pretty much pants. I'm quite down with movies at the moment, I am sick of remakes and rehashes I find myself buying DVD movies from the 80's rather than the modern day ones purely because I find them better oh and I bought HD-DVD too :(

I mean from my point of view the biggets movies I have been and watched in recent years have all been poor, Lord (bored) of the rings, Star wars episode 1, 2 and 3 I really thought the acting in them was very very poor bored of the rings I kept hoping that the next one was going to be better then the previous in fact it was the other way round.

Even the legendary harry potter movies, the last one was utter crap. What is happening in the movie industry? Even the comedies arent funny.

*throws arms up in frustration* thank god for DVD's of old movies.

Goes to watch his laurel and hardy collection.

There seems to be a dumbing down of society for sure.

Theres probably an interest in Batman, at least for some, because many of us were really into it as kids. But you are right in that most movies out of Hollywood are just lacking in heart. The Dark Knight got amazing reviews but to me was very watered down and superficial.

Time warrior, did you see Pan's Labrynth? It was out a couple years ago. You may want to check it out. I consider that a fantastic film. One of the best in recent years. Everything about it is done right! Directing, script, acting, all top notch.
