Lately I've been heading back in time to completely (or at least attempt to) go through the essentials that brought to where we are today. Not to mention most of what I've found has been ace as fuck

Bulldozer - IX
Necrodeath - Into the Macabre
Mefisto
Tormentor - Anno Domani
Root
Sacrofago

Anymore that you guys could point me out too?

Well if you want the bare essentials you need these:

Venom - Welcome to Hell
Venom - Black Metal
Bathory - Bathory
Bathory - The Return
Bathory - Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Mercyful Fate - Melissa
Mercyful Fate - Don't Break the Oath
Sarcofago - INRI
Hellhammer - Apocalyptic Raids A.D.
Celtic Frost - Morbid Tales/Emperor's Return
Celtic Frost - To Mega Therion
Tormentor - Anno Domini

Duh :p That's why I put overlooked

Vulcano - Bloody Vengeance

Maybe...? I haven't heard it in a long time though. Not sure if it fits the first wave black metal thing and if it's really essential. Listen to it and find out I guess.

WeAreInFlames doesn't know what he's talking about. Bathory is essential.

It's like a bad version of Welcome to Hell. The covers of stuff off Bathory from the tribute album are pretty good, but the original versions really aren't very interesting. I love Bathory, but pretty much everything else Quorthon ever did was way better.

It's probably the weakest out of the first five albums but Bathory was the transition album between Venom and the Norwegian scene so it is, therefore, essential.
