mercyful fate is was started in 81 so they were the second in the black metal wave and then bathory in 83. Bathory is also one of the pioneers of viking metal.

I always considered Venom followed by Bathory as the first wave... then Mayhem, Darkthrone etc.... the 2nd wave...
