OwnHammer Impulses - Speaker Cabinets now available!

All right. I did a little more work using the ownhammer Nebula cabinets. Same programs as before. Mix n Match 3 and sm57 3. The "mastering chain" is still the same. Same basic GTR fx chain as before but I eq'd this as best I could. I freely admit I'm no tone expert but I think this sounds pretty good. The ownhammer programs are very mid present. I tried to compensate for that. HP/LP etc. Screenshots of the GTR chain are available if anyone wants them.

Here's the first one:

This second one the only difference is I used AlexB's CLC panner instead of my DAW panner. Some folks claim that it gives a wider stereo image without compromising the phantom center. I gotta admit I can barely (if at all) hear a perceptible difference. Wondering if any one here can A/B these and tell me what they hear?

Kevin: Thanks for the info you've posted on this forum. It's helped me out a bit. I would suggest that you include in your program downloads a pdf with all the pertinent info that's shown on your website. The mics and the locations on the cone where they were set up. We are all huge information junkies!

Personally I'm liking the programs and look forward to trying out your next batch.

Sneapsters, let me know if you want me to try anything else with this stuff.

Not a problem! I actually have a few tidbits to add on the phasing issue, as I've had a couple of things happen to me that may or may not be happening to you. If for any reason you copy and paste an identical guitar track so you can use a different cab on it and do so as much as .01 to .02 seconds off time (these are real numbers that I have come by in my experience phase aligning my impulses), you'll incur phasing issues. Same goes for playback latency. I've copied and pasted or dragged and dropped guitar takes from one track to another, and sometimes the 'snap to grid' feature will actually force my copied track just a little off of the other. Best methodology I've found for taking the same guitar track and sending it to multiple cabs is multiple sends to stereo busses. Eliminates the possibility of the copied track being off and also cuts down on the number of cab sim instances you need to run. Just watch your levels though with the Nebula plugin, usually only send one left and one right panned guitar track to a single nebula armed stereo bus. Sending more will get funky with your input level (too high and too low, usually never just right unless all guitar tracks are playing into it at all times).

Regarding the PDF, I did consider this, however I opted for the Help_and_Information.html drop in you see in your package contents that has links back to the Impulses Home and Impulses FAQ so that if I have any updates to any of the info, you'll be able to get it and not be held to what was in the static file sent with the package.

With regard to info on mic placement, well, please check out question #2 of the Impulses FAQ (http://www.ownhammer.com/support/impulsesfaq/). :)

Thanks again for the business, the kind words, and the great examples for everyone here at the Ultimate Metal forum!

Best Regards,
Kevin

I suggested the pdf file because some peolpes daws are not online. Mine is never online. I have all those services and many others turned off. No big deal. Just a thought.

Thanks for those new clips! These definitely sound pretty good to me and have some nice depth I've been missing with impulses.

Ownhammer/kevin: Any chance on some ENGL Pro and/or Marshall cab programs? Not really a fan of mesa cabs ;).

I bought V30#1.
To me it's more metal sounding, but some bass boost might be needed to make the low end solid.
V30#2 has too much low mid when comparing the demo's on official website.

It seems V30#2 with some EQ do the job too. (by the way what EQ did you(HDWR) used in the demo)

Cheers for the growing technology of 3D, dynamic, and organic guitar cabinet.

I'm definitely going to put this into action. Not sure when I'll get finished with it, but I will be persuing it at this point!

ENGL Pro was at one point in time on my "tentative" list for 412 cabs (along with 3-5 others), however at the current time it's not on the top of my to-do list. Am I interested in adding as many cabs as possible to my lists? Most definitely! Is it something that I'm going to do before I get out all the items I currently have listed on my page as being in the production queue? More than likely not. Marshall wise, I would look to the SLM releases, the cabinet was designed to be an old Marshall clone, and I find it to be much more pleasing than any new Marshall offerings. Chances are you'll find favor in the 412 SLM V30#1 and 412 SLM H65 releases, however I'm not entirely sure on a time table for them; I'm going as fast as I physically can with these libraries, but I'm not going to rush anything or put out anything that needs to be patched later for the sake of pushing my library count up as high as I can as fast as I can.

Cheers for the growing technology of 3D, dynamic, and organic guitar cabinet.

Thanks for supporting me and helping spread the word, the more of each that comes my way will yield the more products that will be coming to everyone! :D

Kevin

Could you upload the .wav's of the solo'd guitars (preferably separated 100panned and 80panned guits), so we can compare ourselves to impulses, how it reacts to EQ, etc. etc.?

those sound great. the CLC panner version sounds amazing, real improvement over the other one! more space, better image. i'm actually surprised, somehow i always tought the panner is snake oil.

I used Waves Ren 6 band EQ and Waves low band mono lineq just for a low pass. I'd really like to hear what you get out of V30#1. Post up some clips when you get a chance!

I can do that tonight after work. Do you want my EQ'ing and saturation vst's bypassed?

Thanks for your ears on that. I really can't hear much of a difference personally. I have yamaha hs50's and a sub. Perhaps I'm in need of better monitoring. I did get a few band members opinions listening in my car but they are more cloth eared than me!

i'm listening on focal twins in an ok treated room. i'm sure it's your monitors or your room not your ears :D

Just bought #2 a few hours ago.
I've used some rough guitar idea takes to show the difference between V30 #1 & #2.
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/9609516/LectoBeta%2BownHammer%20V30%201%262.rar

Chain: EMG81 bridge on BC Rich ASS-II -> Echo Mona DI in -> TSE808 -> Lecto -> nebula reverb loading ownHammer programs
Programs: v30#1-SM57-1 & v30#2-SM57-1
Final: OZone4 as limiter to bring up the level.
2 guitar takes pan to extreme left and right.
No other effects/EQ inside the chain.

1 has more treble (but one could tweak the preamp to bring out more bass)
2 has more bass (one could tweak the preamp to bring out more presence)
1+2 is 50% #1 + 50% #2 -6dB to obtain same volume (sonar first pan law)

I think 1+2 has some potential if I pan them accordingly.
Good to have them both.

The string was already old and the playing is not tight since it's only a rough take.

Hm. I might have to get V30#1 too after hearing your clip. I think they have loads of potential if used correctly. Any ITB guitarists that have Nebula should give this a shot.
Kevin you might want to make one free Nebula program available as a teaser ala AlexB's free toft console.

No problemo. These mono clips have no eq, no low pass, no saturation. Nothing like that. It's a gate, ts-808, lecto beta into the nebula cabs. Nothing on the 2bus either. Clips are like -17db. You may need to normalize etc.

Let us know your thoughts on it's ability to take eq properly.

Thanks, I'll download those when I can. You mind sharing the settings you used for TS-808 and Lecto, just to get any differences there out of the way?

Hey guys,
Sorry for the delay, been very busy with the early stages of redoing my transactional framework, details are on the news page ( http://www.ownhammer.com/news ). I have the basics in place, but it's going to take quite a while to get it configured, customized, tested, and rolled out, all on top of running this in parallel with new library development, creation of the PDF documentation, and restructuring the site and all its contents around the new layout. Moving along...

Kevin you might want to make one free Nebula program available as a teaser ala AlexB's free toft console.

I hit on this in the http://www.ownhammer.com/support/impulsesfaq under Question/Answer #4, but also expound on it a little in the following post from my product announcement thread at the sevenstring.org forum:

http://www.sevenstring.org/forum/2180933-post10.html

Another thing of mention. I see a couple guys posting sound demos comparing the differences in libraries they bought, just thought I may help aid in such comparisons by letting everybody know if they don't already that on the audio demo pages for the individual libraries (i.e. not the quick and dirty player on the homepage), I have posted each of the different sound samples in full mix and guitar only format, and also have the mp3's available for download to the right of the player. This was something I've had from the start in hopes to help out in comparing the different products in the two different settings.

That's all for now, hope this helped, and looking forward to getting some new libraries out to everyone soon!

Thanks for the reply I'll keep a look out for that SLM cab. Judging by the clips so far this might be quite an improvement over static impulses. Anyway it is really nice that we can get our hands on some good nebula programs to test whether this really is the way forward, so I wish you the best of luck with your business.

Ill defo check out the Krank impulses,
roughly when these will be available?

Not entirely sure. I don't have (nor could come up with if I tried) any accurate or even projected time tables for releases, there are just too many factors at hand. Wish I had more information, but the one thing I can say is it's not going to be in the first couple of cabs, so possibly early next year?
