Paramore+the Devil Wears Prada= my latest work

great mix:) very nice sounding vocals
I want to know which plugin you use to glue everything, and how much comp is on master track....
and second: how much lowend is removed from bass, how much compression, limiter or not ;)

I love chick singers and would be a pleasure to work with a good one like this sometime. I love Paramore so I'm a sucker for this style vox.....The mix sounds great dude as always and the end part really screams tdwp for sure!

Maybe the female vocals could be a little more 'up front'. The recording of the male vocals sounds good. I actually like the screaming parts better than the melody in this song (I think I like the AT3035 better on Male vocals than female. I would go for something like even a Rode NT1a with that female vocalist)

Besides that it sounds very good. What outboard did you use if any, preamps, comps etc?

unfortunately the only vocal mic i have is the at3035(i'm fairly new at this). I'll be getting new stuff this summer:)
I used the mic pre's in the Digi 003 Rack+
all post processing in the box.

Great mix...guitars maybe a tad too loud. That bass drum is massive sounding!! Slate sample, I'm assuming?

kick 10z1:) First time i've actually taken highs out of that kick before haha

hey brian really dig this mix drums aouns super sweet in this. whats your guitar recording/mixing like. do you quad or just dual?

track everything into my DI channel 1 on my digi 003, monitoring with pod farm. I do all quantization first, then i print the guitar tracks, then i edit the space between gaps in breakdowns and pauses. Everything on this recording was dual tracked...i only do quad if it's a heavy band with a good guitar player.

Mix sounds good. My only complaint is the female vox sound a little too perfect...like theres no life in them. Maybe thats just me.

Good job!

that would because i still use the 003 pre and an at3035 haha. oh well:erk:

This is fucking awesome
I really like the guitar sound on this Brian, sounds much better than your other Line 6 tones, MUCH better.

thanks!! :)

I really think that I need to purchase an at3035, the weight and clarity of the femal vocal is perfect, its sooo smooth. What pre was it run through brian?

Joe

they are definitely worth the money. Good choice for my beginner mic:D
mic pre was 003 rack+

Hi brian..grate grate production..can you explain master process of that song please?

"mastering" process was just 2 gclips(at around 3-4 db boost each, 50 softness, and ozone 3(only using loudness max with -2.7 thresh), and mastering reverb(plate set at 5 wet)

that's about it.

I think it sounds great, but the chick vocals sound loud to me. It's like RIGHT in my face. If that's what you wanted good job.

yeah pretty much. Just wanted you to be able to understand every single word:) haha
I dont think it sounds overpowering though

Guys stop harping on the " vocal part " its not wrong its an effect . my band basis all our singing off it we even do it live , my drummer can singer perfectly with out it but we use to add a fake vocoder effect great fuckin work brian

Andrew

if any anyone cares to hear the effect :

sound good... but female vocals are too high, the bass is lose and the OH too.

try to check 200 hz of the electric guitars, for me are a little bit exagereted

auf wierdersehen

what guitar (guitar and pickups) and bass did you guys use for this recording? Also what slate samples and any info on how you are processing the drums?

the guitar was a Schecter of some kind with emg 89s. Bass was a Music Man Stingray 5.

samples were snare 11A(as always), kick 10z1, and new maple toms.

Kick had a high pass at around 60hz, and a small boost around 80 or 100hz, a small cut at 200hz, and a 3 db cut at 3k and 5k.

Snare had nothing but a high pass

toms had a high pass, 4db boost at 4.5k, and another small boost at 6k. they also had a noise gate to shorten them up a bit.

Overheads were high passed to 600hz, and there is a limiter on it to kill the snare as much as possible without affecting the cymbals.

The snare and toms were both ran through a bus with d verb on it, which was set to large plate at 42% mix.

Wait
You quantize guitars?
I've never heard of this
how?????
hahaha

yep what zvish said, i think he mainly uses it in the breakdowns, to get the uber mega tightness and get rid of all the noise

What mastering reverb are you using ? didn`t hear that concept before
Nice mix by the way , the autotune part was freaking hilarious :D, this mixture of heavy and pop music is going way to far hahah.

Great job,Brian!

You got to do some drum quantizing video. That would be great a noob like me...I'm kinda lost with that stuff. Are you using multitrack BD to your quantizing?

Cheers!

actually i quantize everything except strummy parts. if it has definite notes that can be easily cut, i quantize it.

its funny you should ask of this, as i was planning on making one soon for Ryan from Catharsis studios, because he was making one for me on how he records with a real amp and cab:)
