PETITION for In Flames/DT Nostalgia Tour

I've thought about this sooo many times. I wish I had liked/knew about DT and In Flames before 2000. I went to Gothenburg Sweden in Summer 2000 the Gothia Cup soccer tournament and lived in the city for 2 weeks.. If I got to live in Gothenburg for two weeks now I would die in disbelief. Let alone if I got to see either band play their old stuff live.

This would never happen but I would gladly write a letter/sign a petition anyway.

I hate you. I was near Gothenburg for 10 days in October 2000, and of course i didn't know about DT or metal back then. It never crossed my mind to check this until now, and it turns out they played a bunch of gigs in Sweden that week. My hate is directed upon you.

I hate myself... believe me when I found out my two all time favorite bands were from the ONE Swedish town I happened to stay in, what are the chances? I kind of feel more of a connection with the bands having realized this.

@ian.de: We're on the same boat... Life has a twisted sense of humour, doesn't it?

lol dont be naive, anders didnt alter his vocals out of choice

Then back it up my friend. I keep hearing everyone talk about Anders hurting his voice all over the internet but I can never find an interview or anything with Anders actually talking about it. I believe they just evolved or felt influenced to go in a new direction or whatever you wanna call it, and Anders adjusted accordingly.

No, please no "bash Anders or glorify him" thread around here. That is what the In Flames forum on UM is for.

Ok...well i'm no basher or fanboy of any of them...I like both styles but check that facts ...Stanne has a unstable throat growl and it shows during his live performances. He rarely goes out of his middle growl and cant seem to go n the high screams anymore. Go and check the dvd...its pretty obvious
Anders has a better range and goes deep more than once during his shows (best example would be F(r)iend of the dvd ) is usually in the high screams but also does some semi-growls that range themself in a mid category. He pushes much more during shows showing that he takes his 'power' out of his stomach. Stanne usually seems very relaxed and does not seem to be pushing that much during shows ( with some exeptions..when he gets down almost on his knees...and voila the growl seems much more intense at those moments ).
I love both of them...but being a vocalist for 7 years now...I must say that these Anders complaints are just off....He already said that during the r2r period he had hurt is voice and had changed from there simply cause he didnt want to hurt himself anymore ( he used the bad technic) but he had already made the jump from deep growl to high screams since at least Clayman.
Mikeal rocks no doubt but I dont think he his a as good growl than Mikeal from Opth, Peter from Hypocrisy/Pain or Anders of In Flames.
Look on youtube...compare the songs you can find of the dvds of each band and you'll surely see what I mean by stable/unstable growls.

My personal opinion is that Klaus Meine is a superior vocalist compared to Anders Fridén and it would be simply wrong to discriminate Klaus, who, in fact, is more qualified for the job. So, ideally it would be like, nostalgic evening with In Flames, Dark Tranquillity and Klaus Meine singing pretty much whatever song he'd feel like, cause he's yet again just superior. Hope you guys back me up on this one. Klaus - da man! And perhaps Boris Becker could have a playstation quiz show between the bands or something. Later Nuclear Blast could hand out beer coasters and Century Media could have like, a canon loaded with glow-in-the-dark condoms with "DT" written on them and if the guy has got a real big one it could say like, the full darktranquillity.com-url on it or something. I don't know.

Or maybe they could record a song together and donate the money to starving people in africa; think big - think Swedish Metal Aid 2.

On a more serious note, I don't see this tour happening. There's just no profitability in it. Especially if you consider that Osmose probably would be a pain. Closest thing to gothenburg metal-retromania would be the 200 000 decibel gig a few years back when Stanne went on stage with in flames and sang gawd knows what. The sound was very poor that night so it really looks better 'on paper' than it was irl. But if you take that and spice it up a bit you could almost say "been there, done that, bought the t-shirt".

Stanne is the better vocalist of the two, Friden barely can sing. But uh... neither is really a great singer or anything of the like. Stanne has done some good work on albums, but the live shows I've seen on DVD or on bootlegs he doesn't seem to sing that well live.

DT members, that I know of, have never posted in this forum, so I don't think they even look at it. Kinda makes it slow, maybe Stanne could win us non-believers over by the force of his personality or something.

DT members, that I know of,[...]

There are also a couple of DT members you don't know of. :)

Stanne may not be the most technically perfect growler, but he has the ability to put much more emotion into his singing. The other side would be Akerfeldt who has a broad range, seems to hit close to every tone (I am not a musician so not an expert either) but doesn't put much emotion into his songs. So in the end, once again it is just a matter of taste. Do not dare to speak against my arguments. And btw, don't listen to anything on youtube, the soundquality is horrible.

Well I do believe that Stanne has a very nice clean vocal and like I said, I think that he does a great job on cd, i'm just saying that live it aint nothing amassing. I mean, yes he does put lots of emotions and that is a reason why Il love DT but I still do believe that he lacks his growls during shows ( does not change that the DT shows I say live where some of the best shows I ever saw ).
Anders on another note, seems less emotional during shows but knows how to keep a good and stable growl. I like his cleans but I dont think he is as good as Stanne on the clean part. And yes, I agree that Akerfeldt us a great vocalist and growler but seems more static on the emotion side (well on the growling side...nothing to say on the clean side )
Of course this is juste pure opinions, nobody is right or wrong.

But you can find good videos on youtube...and to help my point watch these three videos to compare :
In Flames :
DT :
Opeth : Took this song cause you can hear his clean and growls

Yeah you're correct that live you can hear Mikael's voice isn't what it once was (ie the old Lethe video floating around on Youtube). Anders current technique is working well for him live so I guess he made the right decision in that regard. I'm not trying to make this sound like a fanboy thread or whatever, I just wanted to get the final word on the Anders thing but I guess that should be saved for the IF forum so sorry about that. I've only been doing death growls for over a year now so I guess I have a bit learn yet. Thanks for your insight Dark Idea! :kickass:
