Picks

Dunlop Tortex 1.14 mm (the purple ones). I don't mind the 1 mm blue ones, but I can't stand anything thinner. Basically, there are certain things that I hate in picks, so it narrows it down nicely to the Tortex. Mainly:

1) I HATE anything not standard pick-shaped. Not those stupid teardrops, I feel like I'm not even using a pick, and not those big pizza slices (even if Devin likes 'em), cuz, well, they're huge pizza slices
2) I HATE rounded edges. So it's gotta be flat edges for me.
3) I HATE slippery picks cuz I have ridiculously clammy, sweaty hands. The tortex is more abrasive, thus it works nicely for me!

I really wanna try a stone pick, if I could find one that met the above criteria that is!

a buddy of mine has an acrylic finger nail on his index finger. he goes to one of those girly nail places and has it put on. amazingly he can do fast triple picking and pinch harmonics with it!!! he plays technical death metal

i use anything that is a standard shape and not too thin. don`t care about brand :)

Personally I really like Brain red or grey picks. Best grip I've seen.

I switch between Black/Gold 1.14mm Jazz III Tortex, Jazz III Ultex, and .72 Yellow tortex big pizza slice ones, depending on the song, and if I'm doing rhythm, lead, harmonies, or cleans.

I use the red JazzIIIXL's for leads, 1.14mm Ultex teardrop and 1.14mm Tortex teardrop for rhythms and 1.0mm Nylon for clean and acoustic tracking. All have to be fresh/new picks. If my hands are sweaty I'll put some athletic tape on the grip portion.

The jazz IIIs sound nice with single coils, but for high gain metal the Dunlop extra-heavy gel picks (the see-though yellow ones) are the way to go.

Jazz IIIs. I actually might switch to something else for rhythms though. I was messing around with some other picks and thought they might have had a nicer attack. The reason I switched to Jazz IIIs was because they are less noisy than the big guys, at least for leads, but that may be negligible for rhythms.

A few years ago I was in a band with a guitar teacher playing lead, and he swore by those 2-3mm translucent purple ones (Dunlop?) with the grippy indented bit for your fingers. So I tried them for awhile, but eventually started to feel like the total lack of give and flexibility was making my right hand work way harder when I played fast, especially when palm muting. So I switched to .88 brain picks, which are easier on the wrist and actually allow me to play harder without knocking the pick out of my hand.
