1) What is your name?
Jeff Potts

2) Where do you live?
Just moved from Pittsburgh to East Brady, PA. At the end of summer I'm moving to LA.

3) Why are you on this forum? What brought you here, etc.
Joined a long time ago when I discovered SX via some other forum.

4) Top five favorite bands at the moment?
Led Zeppelin, Symphony X, Rhapsody, Blind Guardian, Deep Purple

5) Five albums that had a great impact on you?
1. Led Zeppelin - IV. It got me into rock music and guitar, and it's still my favorite album of all time. I love everything about it, and it's the inspiration for my first tattoo. When I was in junior high, two of my friends and I went through a period of about a year where this was the only album we listened to.
2. Symphony X - Twilight in Olympus. Favorite SX album. Every song rules, and I like the neoclassical style and the dark fantasy lyrics.
3. Rhapsody - Symphony of Enchanted Lands. My first metal album that wasn't MTV-metal, and it led me to all the other metal I listen to.
4. Blind Guardian - A Night at the Opera. Quickly catching up to Led Zep IV as my favorite album ever.
5. Yngwie Malmsteen - Trilogy. I thought I knew something about playing guitar, then I heard "Trilogy Suite" when I was like 16 and went back to practicing.

6) Anything else you'd like to mention about yourself?
- Although sometimes I like to pretend I'm this crazy partier who doesn't give a fuck, I'm still the biggest geek to ever accidentally stumble into a thrash band. :p
- I brought the phrase "quit touchin' dicks" to the forum.
- Big fan of power metal, classic rock, baroque, romantic, and some 20th century music.
- Ken's right - George RR Martin rules.
- This October, Zach and I are going to see Sonata Arctica together, and touch each other when they play "Broken."

My name is RICH

I live in CANBERRA, AUSTRALIA

I am on this forum because it helps pass time at work...and i like Sy X and the people here are cool and the ones that aren't cool are amusing.

Top 5 bands at the moment are (could change in a day though)

Symphony X
Frost*
Mercenary
Freak Kitchen
Van Halen

5 Impact albums...i'll give ya 10 and reasons

1.Steve Vai-Passion and Warfare (first instrumental album that not only had wow factor but actually took me to another place...moreso than the Becker/Friedman/McAlpine/V.Moore crowd...they all ruled but not like Vai on PaW)

2.Mr Bungle-s/t...hadn't heard anything quite like this at the time + experimenting with drugs...complete mindfuck...Patton rules.

3.Extreme-Pornograffitti.....Nuno was a riff machine...awesom vocal harmonies...Nuno was a soloing machine....loved it.

4.T-Ride-s/t.....ahead of its time....unique rhythm work and amazing vocal harmonies/arrangements.

5.Dream Theater-Images and Words....i'd heard prog like Fates Warning/Watchtower/Psychotic Waltz before this but this was the first time i'd heard prog that was technically awesome and catchy at the same time.

6.Jellyfish-Spilt Milk.....first non metal/heavy band i ever got into after turning 18. Amazing songwriting and vocal harmonies.

7.SYL-City.....i liked being punched in the face

8.VH-Fair Warning.....this was the first VH (Roth era) album i bought when i was younger....unreal.

9.Allan Holdworth-Hard Hat Area....i'd always ignored Holdsworth's stuff because all i'd heard was him playing Synthaxe and thought it was gay....then i heard this and realised he was a god with probably the most amazing command of the musical language.

10.Black Sabbath-Sabbath Bloody Sabbath......this was the first 70's metal album that spoke to me...everything about this album is awesome.

any other stuff?

I'm 32.....i play guitar...my band is called Taliesin...you can buy our ep real soon (as soon as i buy a stapler)
I've met Charis in person...she wanted me bad but i'm pretty much married and have a kid so she had to miss out.....+her eyes are way too big and way to far apart.

1) What is your name?
That cannot be revealed.

2) Where do you live?
Somewhere on the hardcore streets of the Minneapolis/St.Paul suburbs. That's in Minnesota, USA for the many forum members who are outside of the US.

3) Why are you on this forum? What brought you here, etc.
I found it while I was deployed overseas, and that was right around the time Odyssey came out. Those were the days. :)

4) Top five favorite bands at the moment?
I can't really say, I like so many bands and so many different things...but the most popular things on my iPod are:
Al Dimeola
Symphony X (PL of course)
Megadeth (1st 4 albums + UA)
King Diamond (new one)
Atheist
Death

5) Five albums that had a great impact on you?
Megadeth - Peace Sells
Megadeth - RIP
Death - Spiritual Healing
King Diamond - Abigail
Carcass - Heartwork

6) Anything else you'd like to mention about yourself?
I like American football, baseball, and touring car racing. I also appreciate playing free rounds of golf, even though I'm pretty much the worst player that ever lived. Borat is funny, Tourettes Guy is funny, Napoleon Dynamite is funny. Strong Bad is still very funny. Anyway...that's about it.

Oh right, the pic. Here.

7.SYL-City.....i liked being punched in the face
Man somehow I wasn't thinking of that album as one of the "impacts". It threw me against the wall when I first heard it. Devin's legit anger on that one was a force not to be trifled with. It just made me wanna walk outside and scream "FUCK YOU!!!!" to an old lady who is walking her poodle.
That album slaps you across the face with a cinderblock, it drives a moving van full of dead kittens over your nuts, it ropes around your neck, drags you across broken glass for 50 km and slams you into a rock, it takes a sledgehammer and slams your balls up your ass, it... uhh... hides the remote to your TV.

I like it. :)

^ But ironically there's one thing that prevents you doing it:

You're living in Australia.

3) Why are you on this forum? What brought you here, etc.
Symphony X is one of my favorite bands and originally - when I first encountered their website - I offered to make a forum for them. Come to find out, they already had one here.

4) Top five favorite bands at the moment?
Symphony X

Piece of Mind

6) Anything else you'd like to mention about yourself?
I'll be 38 next month so I think that makes Jax and I the oldest. Three kids, three jobs (writing software for the US military, writing software for chemical companies as a side-business, and FossilRecords.net for fun), and three guitars (but I don't have any time to play them  ).
