Cymbal Map:
ZILDJIAN
'A' in original finish (except where specified different).
A - 12"Splash. my oldest splash and not used that
much, lasted where others died a quick but painfull death, Good,
loud and slightly trashy but not as nice as A customs.
B - 16" Medium Thin Crash. If it's good enough for
Lars Ulrich and Igor Caverlera, then its good enough for me, only
wish it was brilliant finish.
C - 18" Medium Thin Crash. See 'B'.
D - 6" Pearl CX500 Bell (bless). Received as birthday
gift from Steve and Noddy from my Sepultura cover band days. Crap
and way too quiet in anything less than silence, But it doesn't
take up anyroom so what the hey?
E - 8" 'A' Custom Splash. I bought all three 'A'
Custom splashes after hearing them in local shop, no other
influence. Similar to but not as thin (quick) as the Mike Portnoy
splashes which I would have bought had they been out three years
ago.
F - 12" Special Recording Hi-Hats, lovely little hats,
but not loud enough, will change them when I can afford it.
G- 10" 'A' Custom Splash. See 'E'.
H - 10" SABIAN Mike Portnoy Signiture Medium Stax. I
'kin LOVE these things and started looking for stacks about three
years back (these have only been around for a year) I couldn't
find any joy experimenting in all the local shops as they would
give me a funny look when I insisted that the top china was
mounted edge up, also couldn't try it 'cos it scracthes the
beejaysus out of the bottom cymbal, which somewhat detracts from
it retail value.Tight wads. Will aquire the Low Stax, again, when
funds allow.
I - 12" 'A' Custom Splash. See 'E'
J - 18" Medium Crash. See 'B'.
K - 9" LP Ice Bell. The loudest bastard bell in the
world, bit too low pitched, wish I'd bought 6.5" one.
L - 14" 'Z' Dynobeat Hats. Bought 2nd hand before my
kit ('91) so have matured to perfection (Yes, cymbals mature!) If
I had my kit stolen and replaced on insurance, these are the only
item I would pissed off about losing. Used as main hats for years
but quietening and more subtle tastes required a more delicate,
quieter and quicker hat (see 'F') Talk about contrast!
M - 22" 'Z' Heavy Power Ride Excellent loud ride and
even louder bell, bought during my Sepultura days. As Dyno beats,
too loud for quieter passages and would like to change it, but do
you know how much these things cost?!
N - 18" Oriental China Trash. Simply amazing china,
ear splittingly loud when really twatted but their thin-ness is
their weakness and this is my third one this size, but seems to
be lasting. Auditioned 14" - 20" models but this is by
far the kiddie. Would like a more subtle and swishy china on
other side of kit but i've run out of room!
O - 11" Oriental Trash Splash. Does exactly was name
implies, good 'n trashy and extra quick. Works really well with M.P.
Stax. Infact it's a perfect half-way-house between the Stax and
splashes. Might replace 12" Splash with the 9" version.
Bought after trial in shop.
P - 17" Medium Thin Crash. See 'B' Has inch long
crack but still competitivley loud, Has a nice little sizzle now.
I'll replace it eventually.
Q - Meinl 12 bar Chimes. One of my little toys, used
rarley but to good effect, might splash out on 48 bar one day.
Influence M. Portnoy and others.
R - Hi & Low Agogo Bells. Ye olde agogo's! used about
once a month but for some reason they make me chuckle every time
I play 'em. Bought with my Tama Kit.
S - LP Jam Block pink (Low). An astonishing piece of
plastic. I walked up to this thing in a drum shop, whacked it and
everyone in the store instanly plunged their fingers in their
ears. Needless to say I bought it there and then. Also supposedly
indestructable, so much so Pete Edwards from my local drum store
purposely ran over one in his van and all it suffered from was
twin tyre tracks! Buy one NOW!
T - Rhythm Tech DST (Drum Set Tambourine) duh! As
'Q'
U - 9" unknown Cowbell. See 'R' but without the
chuckling.
