Power Metal

Rhapsody. Stratovarius. Sonata Arctica. :D

I, however, hate Dragonforce with a passion. I've ranted about this in quite a few other threads so I won't bore you with my opinion on them.

I never understood why people dislike power metal vocals. They are just majestic, soaring and so powerful IMO

Some of the male powermetal vocals out there are simply godlike. There is no other way to describe it.

And, as for power metal with balls, Manowar are balls. That's that.

I'm a huge power metal fan. Favourites are:
Black Majesty
Tarot
Sonata Arctica
Symphony X
Firewind
Pyramaze
Crimsonfire
Dungeon (not entirely power metal but alot of it is sorta)
and I could go on forever but i'm not going to.

I love PM vocals more than any other style in metal

:kickass:

I wanna sing so badly!!!!!!!

I have never listened to a Power Metal band that I haven't wholly been able to get into. Yes, Dragonforce suck, but even they have their moments.

My favorite bands include the German School from the '80s (Rage, Running Wild, Stormwarrior, Gamma Ray, Blind Guardian, Helloween, Grave Digger ), followed by stuff like Rhapsody, Firewind, Edguy, Brainstorm, Symphorce, Stratovarius, Iced Earth, Heavenly, Lost Horizon, etc...many more.

However, my favorite sub-genre of PM is Prog Power. Labyrinth, Vision Divine, Symphony X, Angra, Evergrey (yes, they are PM), Adagio (70% Prog, 30% Power) etc.

I really don't know why so many people hate PM here. It is a great genre, and if you look beyond the unoriginal, boring bands, there is a lot of creativity and talent.

My top 5 favorite bands are power metal bands, my favorite band being Sonata Arctica! Imo Sonata Arctica has the best lyrics along with some absolutely awesome melodies with it also. I also really love Helloween, Stratovarius, Slough Feg, Hammers of Misfortune, Blind Guardian, Manowar, and Lost Horizon. There is definitly a lot of horrible power metal bands in the genre though. Galloglass and Pyramaze are two very cheesy and bad bands instrumentally.

PM is fantastic. I view it as under appreciated. Me and my friend (one of those death and black metal junkies) always argue over bands because of that. Kamelot, Sonata Arctica, Symphony X, Gamma Ray, Derdian (I have one of their songs, they're a no name band, but so far they're sounding okay, im afraid they might be a second Dragonforce) Firewind and the like are all awesome PM bands. Id rather hear something that is eloquently put together than hear something that makes me want to bash faces in for 18 straight hours. Then again, im a noobie on the forums, so my opinion probably doesn't matter all that much. :p

People gave you shit for a name paying tribute to Dimebag?
First few coupla' posts...just trying to rile' me up im sure...Or they took me as a Dimebag bandwagon jumper like some people are. Ive been listening to Pantera since the 1st time I saw "This Love" vid on Headbangers ball. They have subsided on my favorite list recently and Opeth has slowly taken over...I take it Pantera is still one of your fav's??

Queensryche (early)
Fates Warning (early)
Riot ("Thundersteel" & "Privilege of Power" period)
Jag Panzer
Crimson Glory
Fifth Angel
Metal Church
Helstar
Agent Steel
Vicious Rumors
Zions Abyss
Obsession
Mystic Force
Heir Apparent
Liege Lord

...and the list has no end

I never understood why people mention only bands that play european style of power metal, when they are asked for power metal.

This doesn't mean that I don't like some real gems of european power, but...

^ Try "Use My Third Arm" off of Far Beyond if youve never heard that album. The best Pantera song and possibly heaviest. Glad to hear you respect them as one of the best ever. U know whats up!!
