I didn't think it was too harsh.metamorphosis said:If my reaction this morning was too harsh then I apoligize but it simply reflects my growing disappointment with this festival.
With any genre, the lines blur. Nevermore is often labled as Power Metal or Power Thrash, or something along those lines. I'd say that Jeff and Van's play is as technical as almost anyone whose ever played PP (with a few exceptions). I would describe Evergrey as Dark Power Metal, with some slight Prog tendencies. As for Mercenary, their music is also a type of Dark Power Metal, albeit with some harsh vocals. Really it comes down to, do you classify a band by its music or its vocals?metamorphosis said:It's supposed to be power metal and prog metal...what do mercenary, nevermore and evergrey have to do with power metal and prog metal??
Glenn has stated over and over, there will be no moshing. And in essence, is providing those people who want to see Nevermore, but don't want to deal with the craziness that comes with it, a perfect opportunity to do so.metamorphosis said:It's turning into just another typical metal fest, mosh pits and all.
How many US festivals would have Evergrey with an orchestra? How many festivals are offering Nevermore a 2 hour set? How many are bringing over Freak Kitchen? I'm guessing (I may be wrong) you prefer traditional Power Metal. That's cool. However, it's not my cup of tea. I have no interest in Gamma Ray, Helloween, Pretty Maids, Running Wild, etc. I think this line-up is stellar.metamorphosis said:There is no shortage of festivals that promote this type of metal, and this was the one that was supposed to promote power metal and progressive metal. Maybe that doesn't bring in enough money, who knows.
That's cool. Hopefully you'll give those bands who you don't expect much from a shot, and one or two of them will surprise you.metamorphosis said:In any case, I'm going, but mostly for the company of friends from around the continent, not for what is a shockingly weak lineup.
