PPVI Cheers and Jeers

Nope, I'm not. That's just my opinion. I explained my point a bit further than what you chose to quote.

Let me agree 110% with what you said, too. A piss break is one thing, getting a beer and stopping to chat for a few minutes is fine, but there were a lot of "saved" seats where no one was for a 1/2 hour or more.

That said, it was a great festival. Lots of cool folks, and as usual plenty of good music. I still owe Glenn a beer or seven.

You have got to be kidding.

I'm not quite as conservative on this issue, but I think he has somewhat of a point.

I'm fine with people saving seats, just make sure you do it right. High five for the group that made the "reserved" papers and set them on their seats. I'm basically fine with people holding the seats, but sometimes it just wasn't clear. Basically if there was stuff on or under the seat, I didn't take it. Sometimes it was clear there was someone sitting there (signs, Century Media bags ON the seat), but sometimes it wasn't clear at all. I just didn't take any seats with stuff around them (and sometimes it was just that, stuff) and found a different place on the offchance of having to move once a band started. It wasn't a big thing, and it wasn't hard to find good seats after looking a bit, but just maybe if you're going to leave your seat, make it crystal clear that someone is sitting there, especially if you don't have a friend there to hold it for you.

I can see someone's annoyance with the whole rows of seats where they just got up and had one person "saving" the seats. At the same time, if your group came in early to get those good seats so you could all sit together, I can see you wanting to hold onto them. Personally, with a big group, I'd probably opt for doing half/half bathroom/drink breaks or something, so it doesn't look like the whole group is just off messing around somewhere and expecting their seats to be there when they get back. And if you're going off to the vendor booths to buy stuff or going to the signing line, it just takes two seconds to tell the people sitting next to you that the seats are up for grabs, so they're not having good intentions in "saving" your seat for you for what turns out to be an hour plus.

Just throwing in my jeer:

The drums being up so loud on Friday... I could barely hear things over them! As that other guy said... THere were a few guitar solos that I I had to struggle to barely hear... Really glad they fixed it the next night. Stride had an excellent mix....

Jeers: Definitely the long Angra intro, that could have been a whole other song. A/C was bad, gf froze but i was burning up the whole time. Possibly the slowest ATM ever. Strato cancelling the signing session(what a shocker) Having to hear Red Hot Chili Peppers playing between bands, wtf??? Nothing major though...

Cheers: EVERYTHING ELSE!!!

That damn moron who started the mosh pit in Therion and Stratovarius.

Moshing to Stratovarius is just plain stupid, but Therion is completely acceptable. Maybe you are old, flabby, and uptight. Moshing is fun. Move around a little instead of standing there like a prog weenie with your arms crossed. :Spin:

I also thought the vox sucked BIG time.
Even had the mix been correct, Edu's pitch was off quite a bit - not enough to ruin it or anything but volume is less important to me than quality.

Jeers: The guy who kept farting that rotten egg smell over BOTH nights. If I could have caught you doing it, I would have knocked your teeth out of your mouth.

The stink followed by a blast of air might be how you do things, but that was the air conditioning, you dumbass.

woosta said:
People who come into the seats after 4 hours at Earthlink and get pissed to find that the "empty" seats are being saved for the folks who sat there for the 4 hours and had to take a leak. Get a seat early or stand or deal.

I hope you have a raging case of bleeding hemorrhoids for sitting on your fat ass all weekend. Fuck seat savers.

and finally Jeers to WAAAAAYYYY too much prog on night one.

Fuck power metal assholes too. There were only two prog bands the first night - Circus Maximus and Orphaned Land. If that's too much prog for you then go to fucking Wacken so I can have a seat for bands I don't like and I don't have to read your whining.

stfu.

1. First Prize goes to whoever was running the mixing board on Friday night. Sorry if I'm harping, but jeeze!
The mix on the CDs sound great. Maybe you should stay home?

2. Air conditioning/Ventilation system needs to be fixed. I know it must be hard to keep it cool in such a tight space with 1000 people, but I'm sure it's possible.

It's a metal show. If you're not hot and sweaty then maybe you are doing something wrong or you need to stay home in your perfectly temperature-regulated house and listen to CDs?

Cheers for such friendly crowd. I have never seen a single fight or even a loud argument ever between any fans over the last four years. That is very cool, lets keep it that way.
Cheers to all the good people I get to see once a year.
Jeers, Metal Rose, what can I say, those Kiss maddona cape bubblewrap electric tape clothes have got to go. Next year try to at least see one band perform, you might like them or learn someting.

ouch....or perhaps you should enjoy her creativity and zest for life/having fun... mr. stick-in-the-mud.

CHEERS:

Orphaned Land, Conception, Circus Maximus and Symphorce for all putting on absolutely STELLAR shows. Those 4 performances made this the best Progpower ever for yours truly. Conception and Symphorce completely and totally won me over with their performances (I was already a fan of OL and CM).

Mike, the vocalist from CM - WOW, can that guy ever sing.

Tore, the guitarist from Conception - I was amazed by his performance.

The karaoke girl from Thursday night after the preparty who sang all the Queensryche songs. My jaw dropped at her performances - she was simply incredible, so much so that if I closed my eyes, I could picture Geoff Tate circa 1986. I hope I have the pleasure of hearing her again - even if it's the same songs, I wouldn't care.

Glenn and The Progpower Staff :worship: - year in and year out this is simply the best run festival this side of the Atlantic. They do an outstanding job and deserve kudos from top to bottom for all of their hard work behind the scenes. They are truly the lifeblood and heart & soul of the festival.

To all of the wonderful people I had the fortune of meeting and hanging out with (both for the first time or not) including: DarkTide (thanks for being my partner in crime for the weekend man, it was definitely a blast), DarkOne (it's now an honor for me to share the moniker with you Steve :)), General Zod & Paula, JayKeeley, ChiefB, Shaye & Urban (both are just down to earth good people), rottingflesh (you rule Linda :)), Chris (spelling?, one of the nicest girls I've ever met), Paul, Bear (what was that 49ers prediction again? LOL), Ralf Walter and anyone I'm forgetting (in name only). Thanks to you all for making an already great time even better.

Cheetah's - 'Nuff said. :)

JEERS:

To myself for missing most of Therion's set - even though their studio stuff doesn't do much for me, their stage show is something that deserved to be checked out and has received nothing but raves from people who's opinions I've come to respect.

The ridiculously lame (and long) intros to both Angra and Stratovarius. After waiting through extremely long delays (especially for Strato) where most people were tired and simply wanted to see the actual music, we get these long winded and utterly boring attempts at some kind of grandiose, stage entry overtures. Neither achieved the type of drama that was intended and were completely devoid of the type of excitement and build up that these types of intros should achieve. And Stratovarius, what the hell was up with those photos during the intro???? They made an already painful situation even more painful. Do I really need to see 20 pictures of Jens Johannsen in various joking around poses? And how in the world is that supposed to psyche me up for the show on any level????

Stratovarius' painful delay to start their show. I understand that the headliners typically require more time to set up, especially given the luxury of not having to worry about any acts following them, but COME ON, stop fu*king around and play already, geez!!

The stuffy and uncomfortable conditions inside the arena - especially on the floor. After many complaints about the air conditioning in past years, the situation was completely reversed this year. The floor was hot, sticky and smelly by the time the headliners came on, which completely sapped any strength I had left and actually caused me to leave early during Angra's set (which I did not want to miss). The floor was 100 times more comfortable in past years. It seems to be a lose, lose situation here because the people who don't like to expend any energy whatsoever are the ones who freeze in the air conditioning, while the ones who do (like myself) are the ones who really suffer without it.

Ingar, the bassist from Conception. While he's obviously a technically proficient player, man is that guy a scary presence on stage to the point of it being uncomfortable. Tone it down man - do we really need to see you attempting to french kiss and fellate Roy Khan repeatedly?

The Granada Staff for giving a complete stranger a key to DarkTide's room while he was attending the festival. What a bizarre and scary situation. He comes home at like 2:00 in the morning to find someone he doesn't even know asleep on his floor. It turns out that someone on staff at the Granada made a card key for him to give him a place to briefly crash earlier in the evening, not intending for the person to stay in the room for that long. This is INEXCUSABLE and shoud never, ever be allowed to happen under ANY circumstances.

Anyway, even though the Jeers seem longer than the Cheers, it's only because the Jeers required a little more explanation. Overall, it was a fantastic time and the good completely outweighed the bad.

Jason

He told me about this!!!!! That would have scared the hell out me!!!! I could not believe that!!!! I will give my cheers/jeers when I wake up completely, right now I am at work and am like the walking dead... :)
you are the best JK

Cheers to the good people hanging out with me the whole weekend... among the included my girlfriend Paula and Pat, Lucas (Angrafan), Junior, Serge, Metal Dave, Ernie and Lisa, Pete the Drummer, John, my brother Mike...

Cheers to the good people from the board I met at the festival (included but not limited to Bryan and Roger, nightwish58, Kingsgene, Mike (guardian26 my brotha), Pete (The lazy ass drummer) and Rick, Dusro, Matt and Heather, Mr. Dolamite, Sautherom and Pellaz! You guys rock!

Cheers to the great bands, sponsors, Glenn and crew. Vendors too.

Jeers to the sound person during most of friday night's shows. Jeers to the god damn fucking bootleggers and their supporters. FUCK YOU ALL, bunch of idiots. I really hope you get banned from ProgPower for life! And also jeers to one board member who was an idiot (way to lie about a "taken seat" to one of the ladies that were with me... 2 hours later you were still there abandomned by yourself and NOBODY on the seat...you know who you are).

PP VI rocks!

Can't forget to say cheers to everyone who showed up in our hotel room Saturday night. Here I was thinking it would be just a few of my friends who would actually drop by, and we got half the festival. :)

It was so cool seeing everyone I already knew, and meeting all the new people I didn't. And to everyone who gave me and Urban their heartfelt good wishes... thanks so very much. You guys do indeed rock.

Jeers go out only to the handful of people who have to always criticize other folks to compensate for their own real or perceived lacks and damned bootleggers. If I'd seen any of ya Saturday night, I would've stuck my 5-inch heel squarely up your sorry ass.

Everyone paid the fee to get in the door -

Someone can dig a band and pound a damn nail through their head with a wooden board for all I care while they watch the show. That helps you enjoy it better, fine. But the guy in question was a pain in the ass and fucking up OTHER people's nights. Gee never mind the ultra fan who stood out on a spot on the floor to wqatch their favorite band perform, maybe for the first and only time they'll be able to - and then have drunk douchebag physically walk over them to get RIGHT in front of them and fuck up their band's set.

Most everyone at Prog Power are cool beyond words - because they take other people into account. I have met some of the coolest people ever at this festival.

The behaviour I saw with that guy was basically saying 'fuck you' to everyone around him.

And acutally, take all that and forget it a second - I seem to remember Glenn having a rule about this kinda crap - Glenn Harveston puts together one HELL of a show every year and one that is the highlight of alotta people's years. He makes the rules so respect the guy and his rules. If you don;t want to, go play somewhere else.

Cheers:
*Glenn - for everything, especially yelling at the moshers :Spin:
*The crew for how hard they work!
*The Vinyl for stepping up the service this year.
*All the bands and the great performances
*Seeing all the musicians in the audience just enjoying the show and rocking out even when their band isn't on the bill.
*The Granada for putting up with us
*The cool afterparties, especially the Saturday night jam session with Glenn
*The bathtub full of community beer!
* Khan & DC Cooper for making me laugh by calling it PPV!
*No smoking in the lobby. Nearly my whole crew are smokers but we didn't mind walking down to the Vinyl to smoke. No big deal. It was pretty nice to have the lobby smoke-free.
*The great sampler disc!!
*Corset Day was a complete success!
*The awesome security guards!!

Jeers:
*Those f'ing stairs!! I used the far set of steps on stage right for the whole weekend. I didn't see any glow in the dark tape like someone else mentioned. One of these days my luck is going to run out...
*The autograph line blocking the entrance to the women's restroom. Having to squeeze through the line or climb over the ropes, well.. sucked!
*The ATM running out of $$$ on Saturday night - d'oh!! That put a quick end to my drinking and buying merch.
*The moshers... yeah it's a metal concert but it's also not a cheap show that I want to miss just to make sure I don't get run over. The second those damn things start it becomes the center of attention. When people spend hundreds of dollars and travel thousands of miles to go to this show, it's just not right for 4 or 5 idiots to ruin it for everyone else. PLEASE, for hte love of God, have some damn common courtesy. Unless you're a caveman, I'm positive you can control your aggression for one weekend. Take a hint when no one but your 4 friends is joining you, maybe it's a sign that your actions are rude and selfish.
*Blowing a tire on the ride home
*Getting in at 3:30 am and having to be to work at 7:30... ugh!! :zombie:

I agree, It became god awfully uncomfortable. My lady became very ill after a while.
In years prior it was cooler and at least we could add a garment as needed.
