Puzzling me.

But that would be a great way to retire. Imagine if Metallica announced to the world one day: "We have come to realise just how shit everything since AJFO was, we apologise to the world for putting you through all that, and we apologise for the whole Napster thing, and would like to hereby announce our immediate retirement."

Even though it's only the 4th largest language? Lets do metal in chinese. :)

The only reason Chinese is the world's top language is because a sixth of the world's population lives there. If we were talking about widespread languages, I think English would be first. You don't see Europeans learning Mandarin or Cantonese, do you?

And English is pretty much just the universal language of metal. It can be expressed in a lot of ways and has a much larger vocabulary than other languages because of its connection to both Latin and Germanic bases. Basically, it's easier to convey your point with a larger selection to choose from.

I agree with Zephyrus, though, in that bands that have even a few songs in their native tongue are pretty cool. :kickass:

Better off doing that from the first album. Woulda saved me a shit load of time deleting.

Reasons why norwegian bands use english insted of norwegian in lyrics:
1. The norwegian, sweedish and danish markt is quite small, hence its a good idea to sing in english or another language (like french, german, spanish etc.)
2. The majority of the population under 40 in scandinavia is fluent in english. A small percentage is fluent in any of the other languages mentioned earlier.
3. English is far more versatile than norwegian
4. The most used version of the norwegian language is to be quite honest not a good language to sing in to begin with.

Darkthrone and Satyricon both have a few songs in Norwegian depsite having them mostly in English, Hvite Kristes Dod and Sjakk Matt Jesu Krist for example.

I don't see how Norwegian isn't a good language to sing in (well, growl at least). I think it complements the rough vocals because Norwegian is a more gutteral, Germanic language.

Well you don't really know Norwegian, so I wouldn't imagine that you would be the best judge of that.

I didn't say I was judging, silly, but rather the posters that actually know Norwegian. :zombie:

A friend of mine once told me that the guys in Sepultura learned English (or began to learn English) from listening to Slayer and Metallica. Don't know if it's true or not but it sounds interesting.
