Question: Can HD hardware be run with core audio?

Lover of all boobage.
And if so, how many channels would I be limited to. System is 2 192 I/Os with 2 stereo benchmark A/D converters and 1 stereo D/A converter.

I guess what I'm getting at is, can you effectively run software other than pro tools on an HD system's hardware and what would the limitations be (such as reaper or cubase).

well, at least we could run logic with hd rig at uni, but my guess is within the limitations of the core audio (x in, y out)

edit: from PT 8.0.4 manual

The CoreAudio Driver provides up to 18 channels
of input and output, depending on your
Pro Tools hardware:
• Up to 8 channels of I/O with Pro Tools|HD
systems
• Up to 16 channels of input and 18 channels
of output with 003, 003 Rack,
003 Rack+, Digi 002, and Digi 002 Rack.

don't quote me on this but I think it PT 9 they have changed core audio to accept up to 32 i/o universally. So even if you're using another daw there should be a core audio update somewhere in the god damn maze that is the avid website.

This would be amazing news. Only being able to utilize one 196 I/O and only 8 of the available inputs would seriously be beyond stupid.

I would probably just track in HD and swap them over to cubase before I left if that was the case.
