I have a buddy at school and his favorite band is Iron Maiden. He never heard of Symphony X and I want to introduce them to him. However, I am not so sure what to play. So, what was the FIRST song that made you say "whoa" when you listened to it. Do not list your favorite SX song, but the one that got you into SX. This question is directed to the more serious Iron Maiden fans.

-Thanks

What do they like besides Iron Maiden? If they're more into the power metal sound you're better off playing something fast for them like Of Sins and Shadows, Inferno or Sea of Lies instead of something like Lady of the Snow. If they're more open to other styles a song between those two extremes would be a good choice too, like Edge of Forever.

I agree on Of Sins And Shadows, and Sea Of Lies; but disagree with Inferno

Almost anything from DWOT might work, apart from, "Evolution The Grand Design, Fallen, In The Dragon's Den are also good choices...

evolution and fallen hooked me...then i heard sea of lies and the hook pulled me out of the proverbial symphony x-less pond and into the wonders of all things prog.

IN THE FUCKING DRAGON'S DEN!!!!!!!!!!
It was the first song I'd ever heard from the greatest band ever to exist, and I was hooked right away. I'd heard it in the Summer of '04 when I was just going through my Speed/ Power/ Thrash metal phase, and I said to myself "Holy shit. This is amazing." I'm sure anyone who at all appreciates good music would appreciate Dragon's Den.

Smoke and Mirrors and Inferno includes some important "atonality" in the composition, which may disturb the ones who has never listened to prog or jazz based music. But the main melodies of most songs in DWOT have a beautiful tonal appeal, which can be more effective on such a person IMO.

Why not just lend him an album? If he likes it, he likes it. No point selling the band on one track if he can judge them by an album.

Give him Divine Wings.

(Period) Everyone's saying it.

I used to listen to Iron Maiden all the time, until I found out about Symphony X - Which then lead me to the world of Prog :headbang:

I first heard Accolade II, and loved it. I'd say it's a good song to introduce to a Maiden fan. It has a lot of parts with the power metal feel. I also used to like Maiden's longer songs, and Accolade II IS a bit longer than the average song.

So I'm sure that all maiden fans have heard Rime of the Ancient Mariner. That song first got me to say "Long songs kick the shit out of short songs."

Period. (This is an awesome fad.)

Success!

Symphony X fan +1

I played Sea of Lies and he liked it a lot. He said, if i remember correctly, "that guy can sing." Then we both went on a rant on how much punk and "nu-metal" sucks lol.

Also...he likes Rush :D :D
