I was bumpin Ras Kass- Soul on Ice earlier btw... Classic hip-hop album & very underrated as well...... He's another fantastic lyricist that ya should be checking out...

His 2nd lp Rasassination was great too!!

I saw cookiecutter had highly recommended Wu-Tang Clan a while back so when a friend and I went to the mall a couple months ago I had him buy it since he was looking for a rap album, and we listened to it (Enter the Wu-Tang Clan) and I thought it was pretty good. I also like Doctor Octagon, idk if you guys ever heard of him, and ummmm Busdriver is pretty cool. And you cant go wrong with a lil MC Hammer's Hammer Time. Also I fuckin love the Beastie Boys.

Yeah, it's one of my all time favorites. I think I prefer Gravediggaz - 6 Feet Deep by just a little bit, though.

man Memphis Reigns is the tightest fucking MC ever, the fucker is so sharp and on point ALL THE TIME

I gotta go with 36 Chambers

Stuff I listen to:
Del
Aesop Rock
Swollen Members
Idea and Abilities
Brotha Lynch
The Pharcyde
Wu-Tang
Immortal Technique
The Roots
Common
Gravediggaz.

The Pharcyde, Del, and Wu being my favorites.

The Pharcyde's debut Bizarre Ride is a classic imo; yall remember their first breakthru hit!!

Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is one of the best rap albums ever. I actually recommended it to him :p
Got to give credit where credit is due. Liking that album also led me to checking out Raekwon's album, which is also great.

As for liking "bad" hip-hop, I have to go at my own pace and I'll probably realize later that some of it is bad (Rick Ross is kinda bad right now actually, he just has good music/guests), but I like it now so whatever. Also, I think you are biased against Southern Rap. It is my favorite style because it is the most rhythmic versus lyrical, which of course reflects my taste in metal. I also like southern black accents the best and if the main focus of the music is the vocals, that matters. If you are still unconvinced, try listening to UGK who are from Port Arthur, TX. Really good stuff imo

You'd probably like Three 6 Mafia if you like southern hip hop

Check out some:
Cypress Hill
Gza/Genius
Ice-T
NWA
2Pac
Dr. Dre

That's the extent of the rap/hip-hop I enjoy

Good to see you're enjoying that stuff. Here's a list of the Wu-Tang Clan essentials if you're interested (or anyone else for that matter):

Wu-Tang Clan - Enter the Wu-Tang
GZA - Liquid Swords (get this, it's amazing)
Raekwon - Only Built 4 Cuban Linx
Ghostface Killah - Iron Man
Ghostface Killah - Supreme Clientele
Ghostface Killah - Fishscale
Method Man - Tical
Ol' Dirty Bastard - Return to the 36 Chambers: The Dirty Version (if you can stand his style, I'm not that crazy about him myself)

Basically Ghostface Killah is the only member who has consistently released great stuff. The second round of solo albums and onwards by everyone else is mostly really disappointing. Wu-Tang Forever has some really great tracks on it but is also packed with filler so overall that is a pretty disappointing followup to Enter the Wu-Tang as well.

Maybe. I don't really like ODB as a solo artist all that much to begin with so it's hard to tell for me.
