Of course. I was just using it as an example. "The August Engine" is not much different in this regard.
No man, The Locust Years and The August Engine cannot be lumped together. The differences are pretty significant. Note that The Locust Years was written to exploit more of the female vocals and have these slowed down semi-acoustic interludes.
Don't get me wrong, I like The Locust Years, but no way is it in the same league as the previous two. If TAE or TB are 10/10, then TLY is a solid 8/10.
I'm not sure if anyone who's familiar with all three would disagree? Anyone?
I'll make it a point to revist "The Bastard".
Funnily enough, if I were a betting man, I would have put money on you liking The August Engine more, but hey who knows.
The thing about The Bastard is that it takes a while to click, PLUS it is very much a tribute to the 80's underground metal scene together with a big nod towards the era of 70's prog rock (something prevalent in all their albums).
All I'm saying is that people who might dig bands like Celtic Frost, Venom, and Jethro Tull may be more inclined to like The Bastard. Of course, it's also got a modern edge to it too in that it pays tribute to pagan/black metal (2nd wave). Later, Cobbett would drop all these aspects and leave them for his side project, Ludicra.
As you can see, I'm struggling to describe The Bastard but I think that's one of the shining points of the album.
