Reading List Thread

^ I guess you're having a pretty tight schedule there. Still, I believe there is no such thing as "not having the time to do..." It's a question of priorities. If you want to do something, well, you just take the time you need to do it. Otherwise, you end up being swallowed into your order of the day and you wake up at 70 realizing you never done this or that...

@RampageSword: Of course it's a matter of priorities. But when you work/study for most of the day, then you're too tired to do anything that requires the slightest mind focus.

^:D I'm sure at some point i'll have more time, but i guess that point will come after the next two years.

Not to crush your illusions, but that's exactly what I thought back when I was studying. Now that I'm working full-time, I've noticed I have even less time to spend on any hobbies. I could cut on my anime / movie watching, I suppose, but I don't want to do that right now.

I just saw a nice offer on the first three books of George R.R. Martin's A Song of Ice and Fire series, and as a friend of mine has recommended the series to me a lot ("this will revive your interest in fantasy"), I feel like I should read them one day. But I know I would just feel stupid with the books sitting on my shelf for years, so I'm not sure if I will buy them yet.

Funnily enough, I think I read the most when I had a job. I felt like I didn't have enough time to read, so I'd always carry a book around and read bits in free minutes, and ended up devouring books that way.

Villain, I really recommend A Song of Ice and Fire.
To be honest, book 4 (A Feast for Crows) disappointed me, but even so, it's worth it. And by far the best fantasy series out there at the moment, I think.

Now reading: Fool's Fate, by Robin Hobb.

on the reading/having a job debate: i read more now that i work, but that's just because i go out less. when i was a student, i would study in the late mornings and afternoons and go out at night, now on weekdays i often stay home and read rather than going out. speaking of which, atm i'm on sophie king's the school run, which is a silly, light and engaging read.

Oh don't worry, i don't have any illusions. I've seen how much i'll have to work during specialty, and trust me it's nothing to look forward to. But if i stay in Greece, i'll have to stay in line for a few years before i start doing my specialty, and somehow i think that will mean lots and lots of free time. :D

i'm reading a book called romanzo criminale (criminal novel), written by a 'new talent' writer and subsequently made into a box-office hit in italy. it's boring, loads of characters and loads of action, but nothing that strikes the slightest passion in me. oh, and for the umpteenth time, a re-reading of italian history in the 70s and 80s that blames everything on the godawful conservatives and sort of excuses the red brigades without saying it. shucks.

The Bringer: Cool!

hyena: Doesn't sound like you're having too much fun walking through the world of literature. ;)

Now reading: Green Mars. Red Mars (the first of three books by Kim Stanley Robinson about the colonization of Mars) was amazing (except for a couple of chapters in the middle, but that's just koz i really hated what was going on in those chapters). Green Mars starts out like some kind of bad sequel but quickly builds up to a story equal or greater than Red Mars. Looking forward to Blue Mars (the last of the three).

'Death in the Grizzly Maze' the Timothy Treadwell Story' by Mike Lapinski
Treadwell interesting person, very misguided -

Finished 'Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets'
*Again* does anyone know when the last Harry Potter book will be released?
I want to time my reading of Harry's saga to be reading the final book with everyone else. :D
