Price range, 500-700 euro.

Im going to use it with software like POD farm or Ampeg SVX.. im really into guitar playing on guitars with thin necks, i would like the same for my bass.. no big ole clucky necks, but nice and then, easy to play on for me... so a 4 string would be really nice.

What recommendeth thee?

Ibanez makes some good guitarist friendly basses. You should consider one of the higher-end Soundgear series. Also you can't go wrong with a Fender Jazz Bass if you want passive pickups.

I have an ibanez and it's nice, but i don't like the pickups as much as i use to. I'd go with passives if i were you. Also fenders are great basses, i have 2 jazz basses and i love them. Yous should definately go into a music store and try all the bass out to see what you like. You don't have to spend alot nowadays to get a decent bass.

My 2 reccomendations would be:
An Ibanez Soundgear with Bartolini pickups, really organic sounding bass, I seemed to hear more wood and less of the pickups than I did in EMG fitted basses.
For a passive option I'd say get a Fender Jazz with the switch that makes it sound like a P-Bass, so you've got 2 classic bass sounds in one.

I also recommend the Ibanez SR.

I needed to pick up a bass to lay down parts for a heavy Prog project. I bought one of the newer SR500's. The Mahogany one with the 5 piece neck and and the low model barts'.

It recorded and played great and was real affordable used. Like mentioned , it was kind of 'woody', warm and thick. Exceeded my expectations. Played way nice.

I have always liked Warwicks and Fender precisions. These don't have very thin necks, but real thin necks suck ass in my opinion. You will probably be able to find one second hand voor around 600. Spectors are also cool sounding and even their lower priced models are good quality from what I've seen and played, so that definitely is a good suggestion as well.

I would pick up a Mexican Jazz Bass and call it a day! I stressed over which bass to get and ended up with one of those. It's really great for the price. I will probably change the pickups to Bartolinis eventually. Real nice bass for the price (and in general).
