recommendation: ashes against the fuckin grain

So I've listened to the album a bunch of times since I got it earlier today. I think it's absolutely fantastic, basically. Pale Folklore is probably untouchable, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to like this more than The Mantle in the long run.

However, and I know it's already been mentioned, but the last track bothers me. I can hardly ever see myself listening to that. It's a perfectly ok piece of music, but it's just not what I want on this particular album. It's also dissapointing because the ending of Our Fortress Is Burning II is just so spectacular, and it would have been a much more fitting end to the album IMO.

I still think The Mantle is their best work. As for AATG, I think it's about equal to Pale Folklore.

I'm in agreement here, and Doom nailed why I don't think the noise track, though I've come to think of it as being the audio equivalent of being burned alive, works following the album's true climactic moment...

im tired of reading in every interview and review of Agalloch that they sound European. What the fuck does that mean? because they have acoustics or a foresty image? there are forests in Oregon you know.

I don't understand why everyone is bitching about the noise track? It fits in just fine!!! :) It would be what I would turn to as a musical choice if I was passenger on a boat off the coast of Maine. :heh:

what an awful idea that would be.

"so what kind of metal music do you like?"
"music? pffft, noise is where it's at."
