i'm thinking it might very well top the mantle. not yet, but maybe in 10 listens.

I already definitely think this is better than The Mantle.

As Embers... is one of the best songs EVER.

I thought about making a "What's your favourite song on Pale Folklore" thread but couldn't be arsed. Anyway, that would have been mine definitely. Closely followed by "Hallways...".

i think i'm pretty much the only person here who thinks the mantle>pale folklore

it is my favorite album evar though...perhaps living in portland provides the necessary atmosphere to appreciate it to its full extent, eh eh :u-huh:

Mantle and Pale Folklore are kinda back and forth for me. Sometimes I prefer one over the other. Dunno about the new one yet, still to hot to listen to it really.

Ok, so I received The Mantle and Ashes at the same time so I tried listening to The Mantle first so as to be chronologically proper and all that and my conclusion is.......The Mantle is a mediocre album, teetering on *unlistenable*, by a mediocre band. Which is strange considering that Pale Folklore is a tremendous album by a fantastic band. What happened?! In all my life I've never heard an album that so lacked musicianship. How many time can you repeat a 4 bar measure? As many times as it takes to fill an album apparently. Atmosphere? Fuck atmosphere. The atmosphere of The Mantle makes me want to throw it out the window of my car and listen to the roar of the exhaust instead.
Meh, well, on to Ashes....
This better be good.

I still haven't even opened my CD yet, though I stare at the box longingly and wore the t-shirt just last night. Still waiting for the perfect weather, I don't want my de-virginating experience to be marred by 128º weather.

It's true that I listened to the Waves song via their website a few months ago, but that was like playing Just The Tip, no real sex involved.

Try to avoid rationalisation and just let the magic unvolds by itself.

why people need to not go on the internet and spout their "opinions" on an album first thing they do after the cd finishes for the first time, exhibit a

Same here NAD, I tried to hold out on opening it for as long as possible but I after I gave The Mantle many many spins in an effort to eek something good out of it, Agalloch went waaaaaayyy down on my list of favorite bands. So, I opened it.

Dude The Mantle took me like 167.32 listens over a very extended period to really get, that album is so god damn monumental. I dig Pale Folklore as well, but nowhere near on that level.
