The large number of established threads with many many pages make this a very "intimidating" forum, I think.
since this is a topic that was brought up before:
i understand how the longest, massive threads about pictures and how people feel (do they even?) are scary for n00bs, as they think it's impossible to fit in into such intense (?) discussions dating back to last year or earlier. still, it's not exactly like that: anybody can either try and add their own view hoping for a reply, or reply to any post
just by checking the last couple of pages in any long thread. who cares what was written six months ago? we don't even remember about it ourselves. hopefully.
aside from that, i do agree once more that this forum would benefit from a greater number of new threads about anything at all. threads that will likely see around 30-60 replies and then die happily, having exhausted their purpose. this was my view around one year ago, and it's even more so today. i'm also taking great care not to discourage such an activity, by actually merging or closing only things that are most certainly
not a new discussion topic. best dt songs, and "hello-this-is-my-spam" threads don't provide users with anything new to talk about, and since everyone around here is so educated and rigid (even more than me
) they seldom get replies anyway. barring that, everything else is game, from your mom's aracnophobia to the sudden appearance of pineapple-shaped nebulas in the nightly sky. post. discuss. no one will stop you.
