Die auf die Humoralpathologie des Hippokrates von Kós zurückgehende Temperamentenlehre unterteilt den Menschen nach vier Grundwesensarten: Sanguiniker, Phlegmatiker, Choleriker und Melancholiker. Ich behaupte jetzt einfach mal, dass es für jede dieser Wesensarten bestimmte musikalische Ausrichtungen gibt, die besonders gern gehört werden. Wer also von sich selbst weiß, dass er zu den Melancholikern gehört, dem sei "The Crown Of Winter", das zweite Album der russischen Formation FOREST STREAM, ans Herz gelegt.

Denn hierauf gibt es melancholisch-symphonischen Dark Metal mit Ausflügen in Doom- und Black Metal-Gefilde zu genießen. Dass zu den Einflüssen von FOREST STREAM unter anderem Bands wie EMPEROR und KATATONIA zählen, hört man deutlich, trotzdem hat die Band aus Chernogolovka in der Nähe von Moskau schon jetzt eine eigene Identität entwickeln können. Die basiert stark auf der über allem stehenden Traurigkeit, die selbst in den schwarzmetallischen Stücken zum Tragen kommt. Immer wieder tauchen Harmonien und Melodien auf, die vehement auf die Tränendrüse drücken.

"The Crown Of Winter" besteht neben Intro und Outro aus sechs überlangen Tracks, die abwechslungsreich, stimmungsgeladen und interessant arrangiert daher kommen und oft einen ganz eigenen Charakter haben. Man höre sich zum Beispiel das eher sanfte "Mired" und das folgende, harte "Bless You To Die" an und bekommt einen guten Eindruck über die Vielseitigkeit von FOREST STREAM. Hin und wieder sind die Songs allerdings ein bisschen zu lang geraten, so manches Outro könnte ruhig anderthalb Minuten kürzer sein und insgesamt darf das Songwriting in Zukunft noch fokussierter sein und auch in Sachen Sound gibt es sicher noch Optimierungsmöglichkeiten. Für Candlelight Records dürfte die Band ein Rohdiamant sein, der noch geschliffen werden kann und die Melancholiker unter uns dürfen schon mal Kerzen und Rotwein bereitstellen, denn mit "The Crown Of Winter" kann man sich wirklich herrlich in süße Traurigkeit fallenlassen. Mit Forest Stream stellt sich eine recht interessante Band aus dem kleinen russischen Ort Chernogolovka vor, die es bereits seit 1995 gibt, aber mit „The Crown Of Winter“ erst ihr zweites volles Album abliefert. Auf jeden Fall kann man der Band schon mal ein gutes Händchen bei der Wahl des Bandnamens bestätigen, denn ähnlich wie der Klang des Namen lässt sich auch die Musik der Russen beschreiben. Die Musik der Band liegt irgendwie in der Schnittmenge zwischen anspruchsvollem durchdachten Gothic Metal, starken Doomanleihen, und Death- und Black Metal, ohne dass das Pendel nun zu stark in eine dieser Richtungen ausschlagen würde. Die Band schafft es immer eine gesunde und sehr gelungene Mischung aus diesen Bereichen zu gestalten. Um zu der eingangs erwähnten Metapher zurückzukommen, so strahlt die Musik am Anfang noch etwas von einem kleinen Bach aus, der gemütlich durch einen dicht bewachsenen Wald fließt. Genau solche Bilder hat man beim sehr atmosphärischen Intro „Feral Magic“ vor sich. Ein wirklich gelungenes Stück das einen wirklich gut in die musikalische Welt der Russen einbringt. Im Verlaufe der Reise verändert sich der Bach langsam aber sicher in einen größeren Strom der immer mächtiger und gewaltiger wird. So erlebt man im elfminütigen Titeltrack des Albums eine wirklich interessante Reise durch feinsten Gothic Metal, über starke Doom Riffs, über sehr schön klingende atmosphärische Parts die teilweise mit einer Sängerin unterlegt sind bis hin zu recht aggressiven Parts, die schon deutlich heftiger als der Anfang des Albums klingen. Herausgekommen ist dabei ein wirklich starkes und abwechslungsreiches Stück, dass einen sofort in seinen Bann zieht. So stark geht es dann auf dem Album auch weiter. Bei den nächsten Liedern steigert sich der Härtegrad dann noch etwas weiter und bei „Mired“, „Bless You To Die“ und „The Seventh Symphony Of Satan“ setzt man dann neben sehr harten und schnellen Riffs und den starken klaren Vocals auch immer öfters Death Metal Growls und leichtes Black Metal Gekreische ein, was sich aber genauso perfekt in die Songs einfügt wie all die anderen Stilmittel. Trotz des gestiegenen Härtegrads wirken auch diese Lieder immer sehr eingängig und wohlklingend und nie hat man das Gefühl, dass diese Aggressivität nicht passen würde. Zu stark vermischt man diese Wutausbrüche aus starkem Black Metal mit den mächtigen heran walzenden Doomriffs und man unterlegt diese immer wieder mit wunderschönen Keyboardsequenzen, welche einen sehr guten Gegenpol zu den härteren Passagen bilden um den Hörer immer wieder zum Träumen einzuladen. So bleibt unter dem Strich ein mehr als interessantes Album das dem Hörer eine wirklich interessante musikalische Mischung verspricht und aufgrund vieler starker Riffs und seiner magischen Atmosphäre zu gefallen weiß aber dem Hörer auch einiges abverlangt. Denn zunächst einmal muss man sich in die Musik der Russen einarbeiten. Denn die teils überlangen Songs sind schon recht komplex gestaltet und man braucht erst einmal ein paar Durchläufe bis man sich an die Musik heran getastet hat. Dann aber hat man mit „The Crown Of Winter“ ein mehr als interessantes Album vorliegen.

Forest Stream - их новый альбом Crown of Winter. Сейчас играет Seventh son of Satan, наверное, лучший трек на диске. В своей второй работе парни из Форест Стрим еще больше ушли в "инность", если можно так сказать. Музыка, что они нам представляют здесь - льдисто-холодная и какая-то ...не совсем человеческая (intro и outro не в сче&#1090. Вот уж не сказашеь об этих композициях - "ложатся на душу" и "поются где-то там на заднем фоне". Получился в итоге этакий альбом с мощным потусторонним "посылом", не от мира сего. При всем этом звук грамотный и четкий, профессионализм коллектива - несомненен; мощный саунд. Вот такие вот впечатления от пластинки номер два российской команды

От себя сказал бы, что ИМХО альбом выражает смысл русской интелегентности\интеллектуальности: слишком русский для чужих, слишком чужд для своих (во всех смыслах чуждости, не в коей мере не иностранности, если только понимать ино-странность, как другое этой самой страны восприяти&#1077. Поэтому, кстати , решение не вставлять лирику на русском в outro (если конечно http://www.darklyrics.com/lyrics/foreststream/thecrownofwinter.html#8 не вре&#1090 кажется несколько странным. Буржуи уж как-нибудь бы пережили, а суть-то очень раскрывает.

2Sonm , осторожней со всякими "сообщениями" и тд, а то звучат какие-то околомессианские мотивы в твоих постах, говорящие о легкой шизоидности скорее, а не об осмысленности или ясности тех или иных идей (на что-то подобное я пытался указать в самом первом своем пост&#1077.

А так, мои поздравления, вполне заслуженные выскоие оценки прессы (может лейбл на вас даже малек заработае&#1090.

Russian metal is pretty rare. There have been plenty of bands over the years, but due to issues such as promotional difficulty and language barriers, the bands never seem to garner international, or even domestic, success. Looking at the 1,598 bands hailing from Russia on the Metal Archives, only three or four dozen ring a bell. Hopefully, Forest Stream will be able to transcend their native hindrance. Luckily, now that they’re signed to Candlelight records, that will likely change. They deserve it too, as their new album The Crown of Winter is a hybrid of many of the great aspects of modern heavy metal, combining quality symphonic black metal, doom, and extreme prog.

Symphonic black metal has become synonymous with the overdone pomp and pretentiousness of bands like Dimmu Borgir and Cradle of Filth. Forest Stream avoid such problems (although there are some very “Dimmu-esque” passages) by incorporating Isole sounding doom influences and more subdued classical influences. Instead of overmixed violins, Forest Stream use soothing ambient bits. The doom influences reflect the slower moments of Blackwater Park era Opeth. The riffs are sprawling, and transition from one to another seamlessly. More importantly, the songs transfer mood. At one point, they will be conveying power and might, but at another mayhem and confusion, and underscored by pity and moroseness.

This release isn’t going to receive the credit it deserves—a monumental opus from an unknown band bound to be overshadowed by their less deserving contemporaries.

Atmospheric...beautiful...haunting... These are some of the words used to describe this album. The players know how to play, and they do it very well. The vocals will haunt you to no end. I literally felt like I was in a forest during the winter time, staring through the dead trees and watching the snow fall slowly to the ground. A great band that everyone should most definitely give a listen to. I highly recommend this album to fans of doom, goth, and death metal. You'll find some elements of everything in there. One of my favorite albums this year.

Inzwischen haben sich Bands aus den цstlichen Staaten Europas ganz gut beim ehemaligen Klassenfeind etabliert, was unter Anderem daran liegt, dass von dort nicht selten sehr originelle Kapellen ans Tageslicht befцrdert werden, die bis vor Kurzem noch niemand kannte. Hierzu gehцren auch die schon seit 1995 existenten FOREST STREAM aus Chernogolovka, das sich ca. 40 Kilometer nordцstlich von Moskau befindet. „The Crown Of Winter“ ist bereits das zweite Album des doomigen Duos Somn (Drums, Keyboards, Gesang/Growls) und Omin (Gitarren, Bass), das ьber seine gesamte Spielzeit eine sehr atmosphдrische, bombastische Dьsterwand aufbaut. Stilistisch tцnt das Album in etwa wie eine Mischung aus epischem Soundtrack, einer doomigen, ausgebremsten Version von DIMMU BORGIR und den melancholischsten Momenten von KATATONIA, was aber einen gewissen Reiz versprьht und in wirklich gelungenen Kompositionen der Marke „Bless You To Die“, „The Seventh Symphony Of Satan“ oder „Beautiful Nature“ (geiler Trдnentreiber mit tollem Endlos-Intro!) aufgeht. Hдtte diese sehr gute Scheibe hier und da etwas weniger Lдngen und Leerlauf (auЯer dem Intro und Outro dauert kein Song unter sieben Minuten), und wьrden es die beiden Herren nicht цfter mit dem Pomp ьbertreiben, wдre „The Crown Of Winter“ zweifellos ein „Tipp“-Kandidat. Trotzdem echt gelungen!

I'm pretty sure I have Forest Stream's Tears of Mortal Solitude 2003 debut somewhere amongst my ridiculous stash of promo cds and from my memory of that 1st album, this a much more happy affair.
For a lot of the time, the album is very chilled out and full of calming melodies, but Forest Stream like to mix things up and venture into the realms of Death/Doom and as well as more symphonic territories. Imagine if you will, Katatonia mixing it up with a melodic Death/Doom band with a few Dimmu Borgir elements thrown in for good measure, but without the misery normally inflicted by Jonas Renkse.
With the majority of the tracks clocking in at around the nine minute mark, the album is not
recommended to the casual listener who wants a quick fix of Metal. Forest Stream constantly move from one style to the next and you never know which direction they are going to take next, but the end result is very satisfying, with a surprising natural flow.

Forest Stream est un jeune groupe qui nous vient de Russie et qui signe, avec "The Crown Of Winter", son deuxième album. Et quel album ! Le moins que l'on puisse dire, c'est que le groupe a su se forger une personnalité propre en utilisant divers courants tels que le doom, le death et le black symphonique. Cela nous donne une musique très intéressante, rafraichissante même. En effet, on évolue de certaines ambiances lourdes typiques au Doom pour se retrouver à la croisée entre un death mid tempo et un black symphonique digne des plus grands. Mais là où le groupe s'en sort avec les honneurs, c'est qu'il a su intelligemment agencer ces éléments, varier les atmosphères d'une manière progressive et continue, renforçant l'homogénéité et 'limpact de sa musique. De plus, le fil conducteur qui nous suit tout au long de l'album est une certaine mélancolie, que ce soit dans les chants clairs, dans les passages interprétés par les claviers ainsi que lors de certaines interventions guitaristiques. Et c'est ce qui rend "The Crown Of Winter" si beau et passionnant.
Passionnant, oui, c'est le cas car qui va voir passer les 11 minutes 44 de "The Crown Of Winter", les 9 minutes 27 de "Mired", les 8 minutes 40 de "The Automn Dancers" ou les 9 minutes 24 de "Beautiful Nature" ? Personne je pense, même s'il faut une certaine ouverture d'esprit pour accéder à la beauté de ce disque.
Ce qui joue aussi fortement dans la réussite de ce cd, c'est le contraste qu'amène l'utilisation des voix claires et des vocaux tantôt death, tantôt black, utilisation faite encore une fois avec une justesse magistrale.
Oui, avec "The Crown Of Winter", Forest Stream vient de frapper un grand coup et de faire évoluer un style qui pouvait paraître hermétique .

You said it yourself: it's stupid. First of all if a fan KNOWS then just stop listening to the CD you know how to change and record your own instead of criticizing. And secondly, I do believe that the musicians KNOW and of course, their opinion, not the fans` is the priority.
And yes, I do ignore all the reviews when choosing CD to buy. I prefer reading bands` own discription of their music and style.

Not all stupid things are bad. I like stupid things.
Before listening CD - yes, but after... I like reading reviews (not writing), but I can guess that many of them not so perfect. ) Some people have talent to express their emotions in words and some people see what you don't see (of course if it's not my music), for example I've read some awesome reviews of Hatecraft's "Lost Consolation" (2005?).

Forest Stream "The Crown of Winter" 7.10.2009 7/10/2009 Chernogolovka, Chernogolovka, it is called the dump, located about 40 kilometers from Moscow, was founded in 1995 by Sonm FOREST STREAM (vocals, drums and keyboards) and Omin (guitar and bass). The two erstmal started as a duo, but were foun In 1999 she recorded the first demo, 2002, she received a 4-album deal of Elitist Records. During this time the men played several headlining shows throughout Russia and Ukraine, as well as several support shows for Cradle of Filth and Katatonia. How's life sometimes it plays, Elitist Records had to close the shop, and FOREST STREAM were back on the road without a record deal. But Candlelight Records knocked on her door and offered them a 3-album contract in which she gladly accepted. So far – so good. So far - so good. "The Crown of Winter" is probably my first Russian band that I may reviewer. And straight away I must say that I was expecting something much different. Silberling, this is an absolutely Pops. Brute, epic, dreamy, doom-centric, crying for beautiful. The six-strong team around Shouter Sonm have their instruments completely under control. Only one of the songs is under 8 minutes, and we arrive at a playing time of almost an hour. In the dark parts can be seen parallel to Cradle of Filth, one of the more dynamic Opeth comes to mind, and with some guitar passages leaves me on the sad and beautiful memory of Sentenced goose bumps. The Russians played with growling, coupled with clear vocals, backed with melancholy keyboards, horny bashenden guitar riffs and drums. The art, which dominate the men easy it is to bring these into line and mix it into something so wonderful as "created The Crown of Winter" to. Conclusion: Two demos, a debut album, and then as a Long Player! FOREST STREAM are definitely at the beginning of a great career. The album stands on its own and should be heard in a by. But caution: it has enormous potential for addiction!

Shit, I don’t know whether I am in good spirits lately or that a few recent CDs are just so awesome. Probably both. I just got done with my Geist review, where I said that they can rival the mighty Emperor and in comes this stuff! Well, hate to say it twice, but this too, is some SERIOUS competition of the greatest Black Metal band ever! In fact, if more bands are going to come up with such masterpieces, Emperor would have to do something (hint, hint, new album guys).
And what have we here? For starters, an awesome intro worthy of the aforementioned, which turns into a Black Metal scorcher. However, this is Emperor with early Opeth writing (the best of both worlds?) Accordingly, the vocals vary from growls, which remind me of Aaron from My Dying Bride, shrieks through clean ones, which remind me of Amorphis. I also hear some Hypocrisy, Dimmu Borgir (especially keyboards), Ihsahn (Emperor) and the aforementioned, My Dying Bride.
I think Forest Stream has drawn from the best of Death/Doom/Black Metal and delivered a progressive work of art that can give many Black Metal bands a serious run for their money. There’s plenty of keyboards, and beautiful acoustic passages. One effect sounds very original, in that I have never heard anyone do it: in “Beautiful Nature” we hear an alarm clock and then a very British sounding male voice says “Good morning, just woke up, I wash and dress, etc.”, but halfway down that line the same voice starts the same line again, the tracks layered so thick you hear multiple voices of the same guy, saying the same, weird proclamation over and over again with respective delays. It finally turns into another blast of Black Metal beauty.
There’s so much to explore on this album, that it feels as though you never get around to hearing it all in your lifetime. Works like that are just made for the sake of art alone, not merely to gain fanbase or make money (not that there’s anything wrong with either one). Having said that, I hope Forest Stream will gain both, as their brand of metal, combined with fresh ideas and poetic sensibilities, topped with beautiful melodies, in a cauldron of raw aggression, is tasty as… Emperor. I hope this is not the last album from these guys.

Forest Stream: The Crown of Winter
I suppose it’s the time of year really, as the shadows lengthen, the leaves fall and the temperature gets colder this sort of dark dreary music becomes more attractive. This bunch come from Russia and recently opened for Katatonia while the band was touring their homeland. The music evokes memories of the early days of My Dying Bride, Paradise Lost and Anathema. Old Opeth comes to mind at times as well. There is a juxtaposition between clean doom/dark-wave vocals and that of the more extreme black metal grunts.
There is something about Forest Stream that sets them apart from many of the current bands treading the same ground. Its quite possible that this is because of their Russian background giving them a different perspective. As with many German bands and the hidden oompah band, there is a Russian tinge to this music. It just evokes a feeling of the Russian steppes in the middle of winter. Blear, bleary and remote comes to mind.
Just check out the title track for an example of some clever prog-metal mixed with lashings of serious black metal. This is none of that grunt and groan that can be found in the scene so often. Textures, clever riffing and a great mix add to the flavor of this album.

This is only the second album from Russian mob Forest Stream, even though they have been in existence for quite a while. ‘The Crown of Winter’ doesn’t really slot into any particular metal genre - doom is probably the most obvious fit, but there are also many gothic elements included, with a dash of extreme metal rearing its head on occassion.

There is quite an ambient atmosphere created by the flowing riffs, which then blend into quite dreamy passages with an almost hypnotic quality. The extreme metal elements come in the form some faster, heavier passages, which include different vocal styles from high to low growls into clean singing. Sonm the Darkest (what a great name!) has an extremely versatile range.

At times the keyboards sound a bit too much like…well…keyboards, rather than being representative of an instrument such as the violin effect which is used. As a whole it is difficult to compare Forest Stream to any other artists doing the rounds, as often seems to be the case with Russian bands. That being said, this would be perfect listening for fans of My Dying Bride, but this has perhaps more of an ethereal quality to it. This album is full of twists and turns, making for very intriguing listening indeed.

Und wieder ein CD-Cover mit Geisterschiffmotiv. Was hat Jack Sparrow da nur angerichtet? Nicht nur Freund Alboin und GEIST sind bestimmt begeistert davon. Die Musik der Russen ist jedoch weder in Nachbarschaft zu RUNNING WILD zu verorten noch erwartet uns giftiger Black Metal.
FOREST STREAM mischen auf ihrer neuen CD “The Crown Of Winter” Gothic-, Dark- und Doom Metal-Elemente mit gelegentlichen Death- und Blackversatzstücken. Das gelingt besser, als es sich anhört. Es läuft ein Film, wir erleben Kopfkino, atmosphärische Passagen lassen uns in magische Welten eintauchen. Es gibt Sequenzen, welche an OPETH erinnern, das einsame, seit Jahren verwaiste Holzhaus im entlaubten Wald beunruhigt. Wir betreten das Domizil, die nervöse Spannung will nicht weichen: das verstaubte Foto von vor einhundert Jahren auf dem Tisch gibt uns Rätsel auf.
Seltsame Geräusche wie das Knarren von Tauen (”Mire”) verunsichern. “Bless You To Die” führt in die Nachbarschaft der dunklen Festung aus Norwegen, als diese noch ohne Streicher agierte; eine kleine Portion Kitsch ist dabei, dennoch kann man hören, was gute Arrangements ausmachen: im Gegensatz zu BALNASAR, welche ich gerade zu hören die Qual hatte, werden Keys, Drums und Gesänge hier ausbalanciert, technisch sauber und effektiv eingesetzt.
Rätselhaft ist dieser Traum, das Songmaterial. Siebzigerjahre-Rock wird gerne zitiert. Wie ARCTURUS das auch gerne machen, führt der Weg schon einmal über den Tellerrand, bevor der hektische Überfall böser dreizackiger Zungen auf unsere Gehörgänge unseren Schritt beschleunigt und uns die Wendeltreppe hinauf jagt. Es geht barock zur Sache. Seltsame Spuren am Hals und die Neigung, Licht und fließendes Wasser zu meiden, irritieren seit einiger Zeit, stören jedoch nicht. Vielleicht besucht uns ja Christan Slater für ein kleines Interview.
Die überlangen Kompositionen rauschen fließend vorbei. Die Songs sind ähnlich verschnörkelt angelegt, so ganz weiß ich nie, in welchem Song ich mich gerade befinde. Dennoch, instrumental ist die Band gut, versiert und clever bezüglich der Variation von Stimmungen. Die Klargesänge überzeugen, weil sie nicht heroisch tönen wollen; da gefällt mir der Dark Metal-Sektor weit besser als Pagan. FOREST STREAM sind weicher als CRADLE OF FILTH und näher an warmen, melancholischen (nicht sentimentalen!) Melodiebögen. Wem SWALLOW THE SUN, NONEXISTENCE oder HANGING GARDEN zusagen oder oben genannte Bands, sollte sich FOREST STREAM einmal anhören.

This is not my 1st trip with the Russian unit known as Forest Stream on this new release as it opens up it reminds me very much of mid period Anathema with a bunch of a band called Silentium that I loved very much in the late 90's early 21st century. I know its a tired term by this is what I call Symphonic goth doom/death in all its majesty glory. Lush pianos, deep bass lines , armies of slow melodic guitars and very wonderful sung male vocal with the interplay of the doom growls. I use to play a style very similar to this when I was making doom metal a decade ago. Forest Stream is fantastic at what they do. Its a very limited market I'm sad to say as if more would give bands like this a listen they would find the magic in the sound. Another solid new release from Candlelight.

В три года его барабана 2004 работ, изгнание людей, организации,
Twin работу гитары теперь, в том числе шесть женщин, а также организация и синтезаторов игрок, который имеет толстые звука.
Для Shinsewaku симфонической, лирический звук слушать комфортно в темное и несколько народных стиль атмосфера, очень приятно Twin гитаре Mellow фраз.
Кроме того барабанных звуков с резким Помимо всего прочего, а также смеси Shinfoburakku при интенсивной холодной проведении Desuvoisu Yuku принести о красоте и грусти Shii синтезатор.
Скандинавские полосах также различные чувствую, чувствую симфонической Готский земли к северу.

ロシアのゴシックメタルバンド、フォレスト・ストリームのアルバム。2009作
2004年作の段階では3人編成でドラムは打ち込みという作品であったが、
今作では女性シンセ奏者にツインギターも含む6人編成となり、音が厚くなっている。
シンフォニックなシンセワークに、薄暗い叙情でゆったりと聴かせるサウンドは
いくぶんの民俗調の雰囲気とともに、ツインギターのメロウなフレーズがとてもいい。
なによりドラムが加わったことでサウンドにはメリハリがつき、ときにシンフォブラック的な
激しさもまじえつつ、寒々しい美しさをかもしだすシンセと悲しみのデスヴォイスを乗せてゆく。
北欧のバンドとはまた違う感触で、北の大地を感じさせるシンフォニック・ゴシックである。
