The House of Blues is a piece of shit... they opened the doors at 9...

Actually, they started letting people in a little after 8. Sorry to hear you missed part of PT's set though.

All in all, this show, together with a Pat Metheny Group show I attended last year, is the best thing I've ever seen/heard.

I had never heard Porcupine Tree before, but they were simply amazing. Great musicianship, great songs, great sound! These guys obviously know what they're doing, I wish big things for them.

As for Opeth, dear god, I expected a good performance, but they definitely exceeded my expectations. In my opinion, they're one of the most talented rock bands(yes, rock, I hate categorizing them as 'death metal', because they simply transcend that style) around these days. Amazing studio work combined with such excellent performance skills, it's quite amazing.
Opeth's performance in one word: "mesmerizing".

They opened doors a little after 8? Well security is a bunch of assholes for carding EVERYONE then because the line stayed extremely long well after 9.

Yup, the security was way understaffed, not to mention horribly stupid, they pissed me off big time.

Well...I can say it feels good waking up the day after being able to say I saw Opeth last night =]

I will post my expierences laters...I think i am still enjoying the moment...all i can say is a lot of so called "Opeth" fans really don't appriciate Opeth for what they are...they just wanted to mosh. They weren't there for the music, just a building to mosh in. People literally left when Mikeal said it was going to be a mellow show. That sucks because all these fans who didn't get in because of the whole age factor were probably REAL fans...

I was there...I will post later...Most of what everybody is saying is for the most part true...They acutally didn't let people in until about 9:10 or so...and that was for the people who were allowed to go in "early" for eating at the hob. THen all of the people who didn't eat had to wait even longer.

Again...I will post later....AWESOME some...the mosh was interesting...Of course as KielbasaSausage says....he had to get exercise as did i...the mosh was kind of out of place though...btw, Mike and Peter look exetremely tired...

That's the second person saying this, weird. Yes, the "pass the line" folks got in earlier, but they started letting those people in at about 8:15, NOT 9:10. The place was filled up pretty good before Porcupine Tree even started.
I guess they fucked up the hours. The pass the line folks were supposed to be in before 8. Bad, bad organization!

My perfect example...when Mikael was saying that back in stockholm...Opeth were tagged as the scorpions of sweden for writing ballady type songs back in the era of the black/death metal boom....and so the crowd booed like maniacs...then Mikael proceeded to exclaim that he liked the scorpions a lot, so he didnt mind that label...immediately following his statement...the crowd cheered, yelling scorpions...you see?

Hey man, I happen to like the Scorps. But I know exactly what you mean. It was like every guy in there was an aspiring (sp??) Death Metal singer. Every 5 mintues they yelled out "OPETH!!" in their death growl. I was like "shut you damn mouth, they know they name of their own band." I was up top by the bar and I saw that little pit when stuff started to get "heavy" and the only word that came to mind was "idiots." The show was really relaxed and both bands were great. Opeth played with alot of emotion which I think is the greatest thing any band can do.

LOL. I will not ever take part in a mosh pit, I think it's retarded when you pay $30+ (depends on the gig) and you spend more time in the ER instead of at the show.

Right on brotha :p I used to mosh when I was younger, but it got boring and stupid, so I don't that shit anymore.

i like the scorpions too...them and def leppard are the 2 "hair bands" i like...but for the rest of the crowd...i didnt see too many potential scorpion fans...and for the reaction to that...i knew their werent really. im hesitant to call myself an opeth fan now though...knowing how rediculous and immature and stupid a lot of them are. I agree with whoever said that you cant understand how you were enjoying the same thing they were. I know the feeling.

Oh, don't lose the faith homie :) I kind of felt like that when I saw Opeth at the Troubadour in February.
Even though I love Opeth I was at the show because of Paradise Lost who were opening for them.
Lots of people were dicks there when PL was on, and I was like WTF is wrong with you people??
I thought Opeth fans were open minded, then I realized fuck em' I like Opeth because I like their music not because of the fanbase.

It was an 18+ show? Damn, good thing I couldn't go, I would have wasted money. Sounds like the crowd sucked too. I'm afraid I'll never be to mellow Opeth show...and teamed with PT too.
