I know this is a pretty useless thread, but I'm bored and I was just listening to "One Last Goodbye" by Anathema...man, that is one morbidly depressing tune, and yet hauntingly beautiful as well. The first time I heard it, it almost brought me to tears, and I'm not one to normally do that. I'd just like to hear everyone else's choices, that is, if anyone else has any choices...

Fade to black by metallica defintally. The tone of most of it in James's voice is saddening. The lyrics are the closest thing to imaging what it would be like to give up on life like so.

Or maybe Virus by Iron Maiden...

In my opinion Judas Priest has penned two of the saddest songs ever.

"Run of the Mill" from 1974's Rocka Rolla and "Here Come the Tears" from 1977's Sin After Sin. Listen to those songs...they're so melancholy and beautiful. Early Priest was very doomy, and very good at it at that.

Also, "Samarithan" from Candlemass is another one that gets ya in the gut.

I agree with the previous post....old Judas Priest is very different from the Priest we know today. And those two songs you mentioned are excellent examples...
