Saddest song you've ever heard

I really like Saturnus. Only thing that keeps me from really getting into them heavy is the scream voice. The spoken words, cleans, and growls are awesome...but the heavy vocals (not the growlies) sound really cheesy to me..

Another nice sad song for me -

Mono - Mere Your Pathetique Light

Love that song..

Especially the lyrics are extremely sad:dopey:

I agree with Hope Leaves, that one really hits me. Hours of Wealth is another good one, wonderfully contemplative and melancholy.

Also, I could never forget Credence or To Bid You Farewell, or Weakness. Incredibly beautiful songs to send shivers down the spine.

Of course..this one must be on this thread.

I know Theatre or Tragedy don't have a lot of great sad songs, but this one still is one of my top 10...maybe top 5..maybe top 3..it all depends.

Let's bump this thread!!!

I have to say, I find many of the songs mentioned in this thread are making me do a "o_O" face in disagreement, but I hope we can still all be e-pals!

I'm going to toss Massive Attack's "Unfinished Sympathy" into the mix:

I know that I've imagined love before
And how it could be with you
Really hurt me baby, really cut me baby
How can you have a day without a night
You're the book that I have opened
And now I've got to know much more

The curiousness of your potential kiss
Has got my mind and body aching
Really hurt me baby, really cut me baby
How can you have a day without a night
You're the book that I have opened
And now I've got to know much more

Like a soul without a mind
In a body without a heart
I'm missing every part

As far as stuff that's widely played and recognized is concerned, how about Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia." This song is 15 years old and sometimes I'll still here it over the muzak stations at stores and stuff. Jesus Christ is this song depressing:

Impossible to pick just one....

Top 10 no order:

1. Agalloch - Fire Above Ice Below
2. Anathema - Angelica, Are You There?
3. Katatonia - Instrumental
4. American Music Club - Apology For An Acciden
5. Alice In Chains - Nutshell
6. Opeth - Dirge For November, Hope Leaves
7. Neverending White Lights - Black Is The Colour Of My True Love's Heart
8. Red House Painters - Have You Forgotten
9. Ulver - Eos
10. Sigur Ros - ( )

Opeth - To Bid You Farewell.. It's just so touching. The best in it that the singing isn't maybe technically the best compared to how he sings now but its just so sad. "Every tear I shed, is for you"

I actually can pick just one, but after the top one, there's definitely plenty.

1. Elend - The Poisonous Eye

Evoken - Quietus
Agalloch - The Melancholy Spirit
Katatonia - Omerta
Elend - Silent Slumber

Great song that one.

I think this song is quite depressive:
