Something was definitely lacking the last time i checked them out.
It's all a matter of taste. My favorite is Veronika Decides to Die, but I know plenty of people who prefer Paradise Belongs to You and Martyre.

I really like Saturnus. Only thing that keeps me from really getting into them heavy is the scream voice. The spoken words, cleans, and growls are awesome...but the heavy vocals (not the growlies) sound really cheesy to me..

As far as stuff that's widely played and recognized is concerned, how about Bruce Springsteen's "Streets of Philadelphia." This song is 15 years old and sometimes I'll still here it over the muzak stations at stores and stuff. Jesus Christ is this song depressing:
