Excellent choice, this is going to me a special show. With jorn doing stuff from all the different projects he has done. kudo's to you glenn. As for any whining " like it or go home....

Yeah, I was here the FIRST time Jorn played so I'll feel entitled to "whine" about the second and all other subsequent times he plays, thanks.

What should I get. If I were to get, say, 3 or 4 albums to get familiar with him and his stuff, I need RECOMMENDATIONS!

JP

I think if you get the following three discs, you'll have the best of Jorn's work:

Ark - Burn the Sun
Jorn - Starfire
Masterplan - s/t

Personally, I'd stay away from his last solo disc (Out to Every Nation) as I thought it was pretty weak. I think Starfire (his first solo) may be hard to find, but his second solo disc, Worldchanger, will do in a pinch.

I do want to add something to address the possible "Rage" effect. I don't think this will happen because he has too much crossover appeal.

Masterplan= geared to the power fans
ARK/Beyond Twilight= geared to the prog fans
Solo/Snakes/etc= geared towards the melodic metal fans

I also believe that the melodic style will go over with both prog & power fans as opposed to him doing only one style.

Plus, you know he is going to rip into those classic covers that he is know for as well. I'd be shocked if a Whitesnake tune didn't bring the house down.

Also, since there is no big Euro power metal band at the end, I don't see those fans being there in the first place to exit. This year is catered towards the type of fan that enjoys a bit of everything instead of just being a fanboy of the big headliner.

That said, I'm not going to relax until the tickets are all sold. That may take four months instead of four days. I *need* your help to get the word out and convince those borderline folks to come on down to Atlanta.

Glenn H.

Great job Glenn; I really enjoy Jorn's current work with Masterplan and have his Beyond Twilight and Ark albums. And put it this way, I am thrilled at the change of events as I am not a Nevermore fan. I'm sorry things went sour from your perspective, but from a selfish perspective, Saturday now officially BLEW UP for me!!! Thank You Glenn

Time to pick up some Jorn solo shit. Glenn, I know I am jumping the gun, but is there a possibility that Jorn will give us a better understanding of exactly what he will be playing from each project, or at least which projects he will be choosing from?

I honestly don't know at this point.

Glenn....... you will have no problem selling those tickets. I have friends coming from Belgium and Costa Rica just to see this show. There is nothing wrong with your lineup. I dig it. I am not the be all, end all of prog/power metal fans and am in fact a little quirky, but I am a realist when I need to be. Your money will be there. The pre=party has become so awesome, it adds another bonus. You will do fine Glenn !!

We will do everything we can to get the word out, and in places never before.

That said, Glenn is there anyway to get some posters, the reason being i am in a town with a HUGE military base, and these soldiers have some disposable income and i know alot of them that would come, just need to put up some posters around the post and maybe a add in the post paper.

Woosta,

You were going to be disappointed if it was anyone other than Pretty Maids. :Smug:

No, Glenn, that's just who I REALLY wanted.

See, I'm from the school that says "there are a MILLION bands out there that could be heard and since you already have a sellout, let's have something new". I've taken you to task before over having Everygrey numerous times. And I recall the lobby for ARK being packed back at PP2 because it just wasn't up to snuff as far as what everyone else was putting on. The reception was lukewarm at best. Now, we have Jorn in the headline spot and it's NOT Masterplan, it's just plain old Jorn and we've sailed that boat before.

It's the difference between you and me, and it's not bad (well, it is for me), it's just the difference; I don't see any need for any sort of repeat with the multitude of bands out there. If you're going to establish something and build it based on providing these shores with something unique, let's not get "un-unique" by having repeats at PP7!! There's just too much.

Had you said Sentenced, Rawhead Rexx, HIM, Deathstars, Victory, Amon Amarth, Dissection, Finntroll, Primal Fear, Meshuggah, Wintersun, Subway to Sally, Labyrinth, Rammstein, The Gathering, 69 eyes, Gotthard, Hellfueled, Thy Majestie, UDO, Pretty Maids, Agathodaimon, Angelzoom, Tristania, Amorphis, Charon, Chinchilla, Crematory, Bonfire, Bohse Onkelz, or flippin' ENYA among a much longer list, I wouldn't have a complaint. I may not be happy, hell, nobody ever is totally happy with something like this, but I feel it would be a much better idea.

Email Deron (media@metalages.com) and ask him. I pay that lazy bastard for more than just this website.

First of all let me say that even thoughI had no interest in seeing them, I do feel bad for Glenn and all the people who were looking forward to Nevermore playing PPVII. With that said I couldn't be more happy with their replacement! :hotjump: I was really hoping for Masterplan this year and this is the next best thing! :OMG: JORN FUCKING LANDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:OMG:
Thank You Glenn!!!

This is the year when we find out as I catered specifically to this forum for a representation.

Glenn H.

This is the year that we prove WE (the forum posters) are your breadbasket Glenn. Don't get paranoid on us Glenn. I would hate to have to curse you out again. :loco: J/k. You will make your money.

Bryant

YES! YES! YES! Though I was very happy to see Nevermore I am in AWE that I'll see Jorn Lande!! That is something I don't think comes along often! THANK YOU GLENN!

They are on the want list for the future.

See, I'm from the school that says "there are a MILLION bands out there that could be heard and since you already have a sellout, let's have something new".

This is where we differ as I don't feel that I have a sellout yet. This is a very experimental year for me. If you are right, then it does open things up a bit more in the future for my selection process.

I've taken you to task before over having Everygrey numerous times.

You and tons of others. It's one of the bonuses of having your own festival. :D

And I recall the lobby for ARK being packed back at PP2 because it just wasn't up to snuff as far as what everyone else was putting on. The reception was lukewarm at best.

There was only 450 people at the show to being with. Plus, ARK was essentially an unknown factor outside of the strict prog circle. It has become more well known since it folded than when it was active. Sad, but true. I have the video and the audience reception was on par for everyone that year save Angel Dust, SX, & Egrey.

Now, we have Jorn in the headline spot and it's NOT Masterplan, it's just plain old Jorn and we've sailed that boat before.

Here we differ again as it's not plan solo material or even just ARK tunes. He is not going to do a solo set and then give us one ARK tune as a bonus.

It's the difference between you and me, and it's not bad (well, it is for me), it's just the difference; I don't see any need for any sort of repeat with the multitude of bands out there. I

I value your opinion and critque as you always present it in a thought provoking fashion. I may not agree with it at all, but I do consider it.

f you're going to establish something and build it based on providing these shores with something unique, let's not get "un-unique" by having repeats at PP7!! There's just too much.

When I read over the wantlists every year, the majority always ask for someone to return. It's the nostalgia factor and it is a powerful force. I can't take the risks in the other spots without a proven draw. I just don't have the balls.

Had you said Sentenced, Rawhead Rexx, HIM, Deathstars, Victory, Amon Amarth, Dissection, Finntroll, Primal Fear, Meshuggah, Wintersun, Subway to Sally, Labyrinth, Rammstein, The Gathering, 69 eyes, Gotthard, Hellfueled, Thy Majestie, UDO, Pretty Maids, Agathodaimon, Angelzoom, Tristania, Amorphis, Charon, Chinchilla, Crematory, Bonfire, Bohse Onkelz, or flippin' ENYA among a much longer list, I wouldn't have a complaint.

Personal taste is a bitch ain't it?

I may not be happy, hell, nobody ever is totally happy with something like this, but I feel it would be a much better idea.

I appreciate the input and the support. You have no idea just how true that statement is.

Glenn H.

Great work -- and quick work! -- replacing Nevermore, Glenn! I have several of Jorn's CDs and now I'll have to fill in some gaps. :)

I can understand how some will be disappointed with the announcement, but the fact that it all came together within 48 hours speaks volumes about how much Jorn wants to play this festival and "help a buddy out." You rule, and so does he. :headbang:

First off, I hate being late to the party...all the kudos are already flying! Well, here are mine, too...

I wasn't a Nevermore fan, so having Jorn as the replacement just rocks the hell out of my world. Regardless, I wouldn't have missed the show come hell or high water. And like you said above, this makes perfect sense for all (ok, most) of us die-hard forum dwellers. So, a big THANKS! And as for new participants in the ProgPower experience, I know we'll be bringing 2 new folks this year (although one came last year) and I have a feeling Jorn will be more up their alley. Throw in the possibility of a few well-known covers done by a "premier voice" of metal, and it's a strong argument to convince some fence-sitters. So, I think you're right that Jorn has the crossover appeal to sell tickets...probably more so than Nevermore. The challenge is to get some of Jorn's music into their hands beforehand. I'll be doing my part!

Kudos again! I can't wait to hear more of the story of how this came together.

You should *definitely* own Ark's "Burn The Sun"....it's in my short list of "perfect" CDs.

Beyond that, I liked Jorn's solo "WorldChanger" CD, and the Allen/Lande "The Battle" disc (with Russell Allen of Symphony X). I haven't heard much of the Masterplan stuff (not bad, but not really my kind of thing), but other people have raved about it.

thanks for listening and, as always without regard of who plays, I'll support your show 150%, thank you a million times over and respect the hell out of you for doing the show at all. On the other hand, I'll only slurp you when you need slurping and be a pricky sounding guy when I disagree with you. See you at PPVII (in my Pretty Maids shirt)!!

I thought ProgPower II (when Ark played) was by far the best lineup. Having said that, I also think Ark put on the best show.

But I would have. So would a lot of other people. We're happy with Jorn. You're not. Tough. Live with it or don't come. Either way, do you really need to bitch about everything Glenn does? This is probably my least favorite lineup overall for PP (replacing Nevermore with Jorn has helped, for me), but I'm just glad he's still doing it and bringing a good overall show. I know I can't be thrilled with every year's roster (though I usually am), but I'll still be there this year....there's enough to keep me coming, and hopefully next year will be more my taste.

This festival isn't about YOU or YOUR particular tastes, nor is it about ME or MINE. It's about bringing a great overall show that'll make the majority of the audience happy, and make a profit (remember, this is still a business).

Most people seem happy with this year's lineup. I'm interested enough that I'll be there. If you're not, then stay home.
