Yo! I did a search and I couldn't find a thread about this marvelous music genre. Go ahead and discuss the style, and the bands, albums etc. that you like.:)

I'm pretty sure this is the third or fourth shoegaze thread of the last few months?

For me, the cornerstones of the genre will always be Slowdive's "Souvlaki" (more brooding and depressive) and My Bloody Valentine's "Loveless," (more lively and "high" sounding) with Ride's "Nowhere" and Catherine Wheel's "Ferment" also being essential. Other fantastic albums were released by bands such as Curve, Kitchens of Distinction, and Chapterhouse, and several other bands from about 1988-1993, most of whom came from somewhere in the UK.

Anyway, the genre pretty much died for about 10 years, but recently bands such as Rumskib ( http://www.myspace.com/rumskib ), Daysleepers ( http://www.myspace.com/sleepwalkintotraffic ), Sway ( http://www.myspace.com/mywinterheart ), and Bethany Curve ( http://www.myspace.com/bethanycurve ) have reignited the torch sadness.

i've never heard anything about this type of music there is someone that could explain me what it is exactly?

I'd say its like taking LSD and then putting your head next to a really loud stereo and *gazing* at your *shoes*.....is that right, people?

Or is that just a My Bloody Valentine concert? lol

@luce
it is a type of rock with heavy use of effect pedals.. the name allegedly comes from the guitar players staring at their pedeals (shoes) instead of the audience. Another feature is the use of vocal lines as.. well, another instrument. Its hard to explain, you need to hear it.
Pretty psychedelic at times, very.. ethereal. And danceable.

I thought the name came from being in a position of looking/gazing at yours shoes/the floor, as in 'being down' or 'bowing one's head'. So not necessarily the musicians playing it.

Anyway, the genre somehow appeals to me, but I haven't really found a band in the genre that really grabbed me. I listened to some Slowdive and recently some My Bloody Valentine, but as said, it didn't trigger any addiction.. Also Alcest apparently has shoegaze elements in their sound but I find them to be quite severely overrated t.b.h....

The same thing with me pretty much, I really like about five Slowdive songs and that's it. I've never come across anything I just adore.

should be nice :D i should find something!

Here are some songs I like that you could listen to.

My Bloody Valentine - Only Shallow

Lush - Nothing Natural (Miki, the redhead, is one of the most beautiful persons I've ever seen)

Slowdive - Celia's Dream (If someone recognizes the album cover it's probably because Jonas has a shirt with the cover, inside the booklet of DO)
