well, i don't think it's necessary to change the name for getting more famous or estimation. And i wouldn't want them to change their name. I mean there other examples of bands who got more acknowledged without changing their name, like Paradise lost, Tiamat and Manowar. Maybe it would help with a different promotion, playing gigs with other bands than Metal bands. But i think that's a thing which must be done by promotion.

Anyway, i like what they did under the name Anathema, and i have still hope that there will be a time where they'll get more estimation.

the thing isn't that the name doesn't fit or something of that sort.
first of all, they should care much more about the band and change their attitude to fans and even themselvels. sit down and think things over.

it's my opinion, but i can be wrong.

don't even think about it. it won't help. and screw them "true" metalheads. they won't bother to check anything if it's not metal, so who needs 'em. they're more narrow minded than my little sis who's a britney fan... and like someone said... it's greek!

The word Anathema has a decent sized fanbase and guaranteed to sell X amount of albums. It could take years to build up a reputation in a different, totally unfamiliar scene to them. By that time they'll be dead old and that. Muzzys, wallets, the lot!! hehe

i only know 1 thing...
2 days in Athens at 2002 - 2 days sold-out...

the 80% of the audience(i think is a quite more) of them are Metalheads...

BUT when they listened Pressure i saw all the audience to knows the words and yes do HEADBANGING with that....

I don't know for entire world but in countries like Greece,Poland,Hungary etc Anathema will always have fans of their music and these fans will be metalheads....

BTW : Alternative 4 is metal????????
i don't think so...

i know that changing the name is great point cause with new name they will have maybe a better change for non metal music, but i believe that all metalheads that they love A4 never leave them... if anathema change name i think that the most of the metalheads fans of them will not be with them.....

Hmmm, i think a new name for them could only work if they're gonna make a BIG change on their music directions...if the new stuff is just a step forward from afdte, then a new name will not make them more popular or successful, the same kind of fans and the same percent of metalheads will just continue supporting them...and i don't think that any of the fans will feel the need to scream another name than "anathema" when that band will be on the stage ready to perform! ...but again, who knows?

I dont see any need to change the name. Other fuckheads get away with a totally different lineup, never mind musical direction. As long as its got Danny in then i suppose its Anathema. Great idea for a new thread/ poll.

See you there in 5 minutes, you fucking derty gets

Sopel mate:worship:

exactly what i would say. What is the meaning of a shiny wrapping, when the inside is not equivalent?*rhetorical question*

based on what some people said before i have to add that changing the name would seem(and be?)a major sell-out to many people, especially to the old fanbase.

if the right work is done, meaning management, promotion and the band works as a team and everybody cares and does his best to promote the band EVEN as a simple rock band,i think the difficulties with the non-metal market will be lessened.a new name will mean:promotion from almost point zero(esp.for the non-metal market)

And a general remark:

Metalheads may be narrow minded and stuck in the brain.

BUT
we shall never shit on where we once kissed.

respect!
