Corpse paint is not for opeth or really any band. Who needs an image to sell records. Before you say Opeth promotes a certain image they are normal people and dont need the clown paint like Asgeir from Borknagar calls it.
Anyway am proud that I dont listen to clown paint bands.

Aren't you totally contradicting yourself there? You say a band's image doesn't matter, and then go on to say you're proud of the image of the bands you like... which is it?

He gave metal a bad name and so did the Norwegian BM scene with all the killings and church burnings. As far as I understand that is not a part of music mmmm?
To be totally honoust I think that they were more towards rap music in their images and what they were doing for the said music than for metal. So what if they are extreme. There are a lot of bands more extreme than Mayhem that don't do it for image but for music which is what my point originally was all about. If corpse paint IS black metal then I want nothing to do with it. So to any BM people who hate slipknot or rap (of which I can't stand)for image then you better look in the mirror.

I dunno. It would be pretty hard to take Opeth seriously when they're in permanent mock mode. Especially because when live they DO take their actual songs seriously and don't joke around while perfoming. Only during the commentaries does Opeth relax and joke around...I just don't realistically see them putting on corpse paint, at least not for an entire show.

I think Opeth has a cool image, but their music would still be fantastic without it. Most of the black metal bands that have the black metal image going on would lose many of their fans if they dropped their image. That's why most black metal sucks. The music is shit, so they dress up and spread anti-Christian propaganda.

That's a pretty unfair generalization, there are a lot of talented bands out there with this "evil" image. It goes along with certain kinds of metal, and as long as the music's good, I wouldn't care if they wore a pink dress and balloons in their shirt (See the Tom Nouga videos from swano.com if you're interested )!

There are just as many shitty metal bands who don't wear corpse paint and worship satan as there are who do. Can't generalize too much.

I think I only generalized in that one sentence... I said "most" in the rest of the post, inferring that there are some talented black metal bands. My point is, most black metal bands aren't much once you strip away the image, the hate, all those stupid things that some people seem to like them for.

I can't see Opeth in corpse paint, or clown make up for that matter. Their just too lazy for that. There's a remotely slim iota of a chance, about the same as any of you idiots getting laid actually, that they'll put on the corpse paint for a promo shoot. But not a chance they'll do that on stage. For one thing, if their too lazy to rehearse, do you really think they can be arsed sitting their for 2 hours while some monkey finger paints their faces?

In any case, if they where to paint their faces, I wouldn't care as long as they belted out wicked songs like they have been for the last 10 years. They could stand there naked with full body glow paint on. They could stand there with ridiculous red plant vases on their heads. They could stand there with big overalls and ridiculous gas masks on. It really doesn't matter now does it. Well, maybe not the plant vases...
