Hey,
A few people might already know about this from my previous posts, but awhile back I created an online collaboration band and was able to find musicians from this forum to record all the parts.

As the project is for my university dissertation, I wanted to expand on the online collaboration theme and get people to have a go at mixing the tracks (I will be also having a go at mixing myself). We've recorded ten tracks for the 'album', however to have a little more protection over the files I've just uploaded one track onto the server (at the bottom of this thread). This will also allow me to make a better comparison of the mixes, rather than people doing different tracks... From there we can kinda decide which mixes are best and if any of those people are interested, I can make some more of the files available (ultimately I aim on getting this released - already have an itunes release confirmed)

There are multiple options for each section of the audio allowing the mixer for greater control, allowing you to mix and match as you wish.

The files include...
- Unedited/Edited Acoustic Drums
- MIDI drum file
- 3 Different sets of Guitar Reamps + the clean DI files if you wan't to do your own
- 3 Different sets of Bass tracks
- Full set of vocals
- MIDI synth (MIDI if you want to do your own and Audio)

The track itself is entitled 'Darker Shade Of Green' - there is an .mp3 of it on the server link or it has the pre-production name 'Destroyer' on www.myspace.com/projectruins

Just a couple of things I would like to ask in return:
- If you plan on having a go at mixing could you post on here/contact me at ruinsproject@hotmail.com just so I kinda know whos doing it!
- If you could provide any feedback, positive or negative either on the concept of the project, or the songs/recordings themselves that would be great - as I said its for my dissertation so its all extra stuff/primary research for the academic report
- Could those that plan on mixing it try and do it fairly quickly. The recording process slightly overran so i'm kinda working to a tight timeframe. Would ideally like a mix (just of this song) by Mid April latest.

Thanks again - if you have any questions/problems opening audio files etc. just post on here/pm me or contact ruinsproject@hotmail.com and i'll get back ASAP!

Enjoy! :headbang:

hey - thanks for the quick reply
yeah the vocals are coming in a bar too early and kinda throwing everything a bit off track at the mo - kinda makes it quite hard to listen to... the run of clean vox sounds pretty decent though - maybe if you could make another bounce down with the adjusted vox and can give a bit better feedback.

other things - personally i'm not too sure about the snare sound at the moment, and this particular song has a fade out at the end :)

Thanks anyway, and if you fancy making the amendments that'd be awesome!

Starting to have a bash at this, but I'm concerned as to why the bass finishes before everything else, and why there appears to be random gaps in all 3 bass tracks during parts which seem like the bass should still be there.

I am pretty sure the bass tracks are good. There are parts where they do cut out. Bass does end a bit early, however it is supposed to fade out at the end of the tune do it shouldn't be an issue

I guess, just seems weird to have the whole bottom of the mix drop out as it's fading. I'll see what I can do.

Yep, vox too early.

Also, with the lead guitar it sounds like you might have only used one (there is a harmony that comes in the second time)

I should have a bit of time to mix this soon hopefully

There's only one lead track, in the 5150 SM57 zip that is, there is another in the DI's though. Not tried the rest of the miked tracks.

Hey guys sorry I just imported the tracks to PT that's how they were I'll def take a listen to the track and try my eat to line it up I used the real drums edited and the di guitars I'll repost tom. Cheers great tune dave

hey,
hadnt actually had chance to line up the session files myself yet - if there is a problem with the bass cutting out early then could probably cut and paste one of the bass loops at the end as they're all repeated/its on a fade out - that should solve that problem I think.

As for the second 57 lead track, yeh it appears that only one got uploaded - i'll put the second one on the server now it'l just be in a seperate file 'LG57 02.wav' in the main folder - there shouldnt be any problems with the other guitar reamps...

GuitarHack - Yeh would be awesome if you could have a go at the reamps! Thanks :)

I can reamp the Guitar DI's tomorrow and post them here if anyone would like to check them out and possibly use them in their mix. :err:

You know I'm always down for that :heh:

This looks really interesting. Got some other stuff lined up at the moment, but would love a chance to take a stab at it. Don't normally get stuff this extreme to mix down here. Everyone seems to be an 80s thrash head.

Arr, here is my version: http://dl.getdropbox.com/u/307242/mix/darkershadesofgreenmaster2.mp3 *Edit: New master.. Maybe to hot? :loco:

yeh generally sounds pretty decent - i like the guitar tone you've got on this (which files did you use?) i'd maybe have the clean vocals slightly higher in the mix at the end??

one thing i wasn't too keen on - thought the sample(s) for the crash cymbals were a bit too strong in the mix... there's quite a lot of hits ther all with kinda really strong velocities and think it stands out a bit too much...

again just personal opinion, but let me know what you think! thanks for the original mix anyway - much appreciated!

Can one of you guys that already has a mix done of this post it without Guitars? Just an mp3 would be fine so I can try and dial in a tone that fits. I will post the link here to the finished reamps.

Thanks

Not sure if it may effect your reamping(?), but the bass takes are quite different in tone so not really sure which people will use which ones/they all might differ in some way - Like you said if someone with a mix could make an mp3 that'd be great though (alternatively the audio files are on the server...)

i'll try get a mix of this down myself in the next few days - just have a couple of other assignments to get out the way with first :erk:
