sneap forum band - anyone interested in mixing this?

Whey 1 hours work or so

Mix w/ vocals and synths added now.

With the way the Vocals are placed over the riffs you can hear a slight Black Dahlia Murder influence.

hey man,
had a few listens through things - heres some general feedback (as I said on myspace things are a bit hectic today so i'll be able to give some better feedback tomorrow)...

Sounds like the floor tom has been replaced with the ride bell on there - if you could swap that round it'd be great (if theres a mistake with that midi drum file read me just let me know and i'll amend) I'd again see if could make the toms slightly punchier in the mix - I kinda like the drum sound on some of the newer august burns red/or again take some black dahlia stuff as an influence

The ending the echo kind of effect could work quite well - i'd be tempted to include quite a bit more of it as the track comes to a close and have like a really epic echoey type feel to it? or maybe you could possibly loop the synth track/leave that running with the echo effect - after all its gonna be the last track on the album :) again just thoughts!

Again i'd personally probably change that final drum bar, but if you wanted to have that kinda slower half time feel think it needs an extra kick drum note programmed in there

aside from that sounds pretty damn good - cheers!

Alright i'll take a look at sorting out the drums man

I'll sort something out tonight / tomorrow as i have an interview to prepare for tomorrow morning (Y)

im glad you like the idea for the ending and i'll add in your ideas too and see what you reckon.

Thanks, your right. I made a new version. Drums are littlebit weaker, but still they are quite dominant.

seems a little muddier but also has quite a lot more treble compared to some of the other mixes/more overlap of some freqencies that provide less seperation for some of the instruments? maybe just experiment with eq settings there...

i like the punchyness of the toms coming through in there - they come out really well... drum balance in general is good i'd maybe experiment with the eq settings again though/possibly turn the ride bell down slightly?

possibly make the cleaner vocals slightly subtler when they come in

as i mentioned before i'm pretty pushed for time tonight so only have chance to give them a couple of listens each (wasnt really expecting to have this many mixes back already :)) but yeh i'll shoot them a few more times tomorrow see if can pick out anything else!

Ok here's my first mix. I used the real drums, sample replaced the kick, and blended the snare. The strings at the end are EWQL Gold.

It still needs some work, but I figured I'd post anyway lol...

EDIT: I just realized there are a few false triggers on the snare, I'll fix them and post another version later.

hey
on first listen kinda sounds boxy/really overly compressed to me - i'd be tempted to ease off the compression (bring out a bit more dynamic range especially on the guitars) and make the snare a lot smaller in the mix(possibly change the sample your using for it), and bring up the guitars/vocals adding a little eq to help bring things out a bit more. i think the main problem generally is that the drums are really dominating and drowning everything else out) Again will have a few more listens and get some better feedback tomorrow-just initial thoughts. Thanks for the first mix anyways - appreciate it - let me know your thoughts/check out some of the other mixes etc. and i'll be in touch again!

Hey thanks for the reply. Yeah pretty soon after I posted I realized the drums were way too loud, and the snare was pretty much killing everything. I think I butchered it some in mastering too. I'm revising right now, and I'll have another mix up for you tomorrow. :kickass:

Alright, I'm mixing right now... I've gotta ask - what the fuck is up with the guitar edits? They're really quite obvious, especially in the lead track... what happened here??? IMO that first leadtrack on the 5150 reamp is useless!

I did things in quite a hurry. Did all the recording for all the tunes in 2 short sessions, so there may be some strange edits.

However, with the leads on this one, I played them straight through IIRC so not sure? I didn't use those reamps when I had a quick play with a mix of this so not sure what you are talking about.

I have everything backed up so if things are indeed messed up with files I can fix that. Sorry if I did something stupid in my rush to record everything as fast as possible for David :)

The Krank reamps were fine - must've just been the 5150? Not sure.

Forgive me for coming off like a douche, stressful week over here.

hey,
the reamps i did with the 5150 were actually my first ever attempt at doing anything like this - they were more to provide extra options if need be rather than for definate final use! (zacks reamps are the mesaboogie ones) understand if you dont like my reamps though - i myself can hear a HF buzz in the background and probably wouldnt use them! this was one of the main reasons i included the clean DI files within there- so people with a bit more experience can do what they want with the files...any suggestions on how to improve them would be appreciated though! thanks

It's not the tone, but rather the fades in volume... it's really weird, like there's a swell on some of the transients.

I'll try to get my mix up tomorrow... gonna be a pretty big diversion, I think. Doing a lot of drum programming, using Superior 2.0.

hmm - is that with all the guitar files/just the 5150 reamps or what? the original takes of the 5150 had quite a bit of background noise whenever there wasnt any notes being played so i just put in a really basic gate in there
-i can upload the pure raw files if you want or maybe try and adjust attack and release time to preserve transients better? let me know! - look forward to hearing your inital mix anyways!
