It is actually snowing right now in Roswell, and from what I hear, across the metro area.

Minor bitch-session: We have someone who second-guesses the personnel (did I spell that right? :b) decisions of anyone on my management team... she just happens to have been our manager on our previous account. So she questions our decision to tell our team they can go home early if they feel it necessary. She asks where we're getting our information. Hello... WTF? Weather.com. I just responded that we have people who live in Dahlonega and Dawsonville. (40 miles north of where we work) Geez! They were going off info posted this morning; we were looking at updated info. Drives me nuts!

...i would think driving on ice would be worse......being a california girl now residing in nc, i always stress this time of year...whenever there is talk of snow and ice, i panic....i hated it a few years ago when the streets iced up and in what usually took me 15 minutes to drive home from work, took me 5 hours...and seeing the most illegal driving...it was really scary and i was so happy to finally get home at 10 pm that night....

...summer can't get here fast enough..............

If there is ANY weather condition other than absolutely clear skies, driving in Dallas immediately becomes an adventure. And not a good one! :hypno:

It's exactly the same here. I don't worry about driving in rain and snow, I worry about having to share the roadways in it!!

It is STILL coming down. It has not snowed more than a quick flurry here since I moved here 3+ years ago. not enough to stick, anyway--and now it's sticking to everything but the road. Hope it doesn't ice over, considering my drive/parking area are a pretty good hill. So funny how little wintry precip it takes for us to all freak out!

Living in Pa. all of my life it's really funny to hear people freaking over a little snow. I'm not laughing at anyone. It's just kinda strange to me.

...it is a very rare occurrence for snow to fall in the san fernando valley in southern california...i remember it happening only one time and that was about 1989 or so...other than that, it snows in the foothills there....so i am definitely not used to it....

I had friends from Philly that used to live in Atlanta. They said the world shut down in a flurry. They are really not used to it down there.

And yet, even here, people rush the supermarkets when a storm is coming. The last time that happened, I saw a news reporter interviewing people in the market. Their shopping carts were full, as if they might never get out of their houses again. The reporter asked them if, in the many years they lived in Phila, were they ever trapped in their houses for more than half a day due to a snow storm.

Of course, the answer was 'no', but they still wanted to buy up all the bread and milk. Mob mentality. Sigh.

It really sucked when the wife and I really needed bread and milk, and none was there to be had because there was a prediction of snow. I wanted to scream out that 'I'm not panicking. We REALLY need bread and milk!" :heh:

LOL! Born in Fort Worth, I have lived in Dallas for a few years. One year (1993-94???) there was a sleet/ice/snow/rain storm in November and I have never seen so many carwrecks in my life.

I recommend driving through mountain passes in Colorado during December to see how real driver's drive!

In 'this part' of Georgia, the slightest bit of snow means schools are shut down and people have an excuse not to go to work. Very much unlike the north, where they just break out the snow plows and kids have to suck it up and go to school regardless of the amount of snow from what I hear.

I guess us Georgians just have no idea what to do when it comes to REAL winter weather, especially since our winter weather is bi-polar (no pun intended). It will feel like spring one day and the inside of a refrigerator the next.

In Georgia ...

Unless you're in Elbert County. Dad's truck slips four times on the way to the end of the driveway ..... bus almost runs off the road twice ..... and numerous car accidents are reported that morning (most of them being juniors/seniors driving to school). No cancellation whatsoever ... not even a late start

I stand corrected, and so I correct myself in my previous post.

and that sucks btw.

Wow, that sucks. I hear schools further north WERE closed for Thursday.

Looks like it's all rain now, and rain is pushing steadily toward the northeast and displacing the sleet and snow. Still have some snow on the ground here. Earlier here in Barrow County the roads were getting nicely dusted with snow in spots, but the rain washed it off.

From living in Pittsburgh growing up, where snow is just a way of life between November and March - I'm still surprised how people where I now live (Virginia) don't know how to handle the weather.

Today they're forecasting a wintery mix - changing over to all rain by afternoon. For me, its not that big of a deal. But coming in I was listening to the radio and already a couple of school districts are CLOSED.

Bear in mind we don't have ANY snow on the ground, no precipitation of ANY kind yet. In fact, its dry as a bone this morning. But they closed the schools anyhow.

Definately not the mindset of where I came from..... :ill:

Part of the reason they close schools is because we are not prepared--we do not have the snow-clearing equipment, etc., that cities in colder climes have (what, spend all that money to use it once every year or so?). There's a serious risk of stranded people (esp. kids) should the weather take even a small turn for the worse. Also keep in mind, we do not have snow tires. That makes driving in wintry conditions more hazardous by itself. And that's not counting stupid people. I saw one car on 400 this morning (boy was traffic light--I'm guessing a lot of people laid out) with snow completely covering the back glass. Come on, folks, practically all you had to do was look at it hard and it would slide off. :P

How bad do people drive in snow down there? Is it as bad as when it snows in TX? :)

Most people's IQ drops to about 12 when driving in snow. And it never amazes me how many people feel the need to go to the store and stock up on 3 gallons of milk when we only get a light dusting.
