i love divine wings and all the others, but symph. x reeeaally went for it with the odyssey.. i mean, the just nailed it! that song is what every other song should( i am not saying that every other song should be 25 minutes long, but it is a killer song..) so by now you guys should know what i voted for.
 
I'm sorry, but I just cannot understand how the Odyssey won this poll. I'm a huge, HUGE SyX fan and have been for years, but this surprises me. And of course I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion, but I really think the Odyssey won because of it's length. Yes, there are definitely some great moments in the song, but overall I find it to be somewhat unfulfilling. The opening orchestral sequence, along with all other orchestral additions, are great. But many of the verses are very basic, not all that energetic (to a point of seemingly under enthusiastic performance from the guys) and just not that enjoyable to listen to. I don't know.

And don't get me wrong, I do like the song, I just don't believe it is SyX's best work. The Divine Wings of Tragedy is by far better than the Odyssey (again in my opinion). That song starts out awesome and ends awesome! There is not a single part of this song that doesn't keep my attention. that, to me, is the sign of a truly great song. that's why I voted for it and am surprised that it fell so far short of the Odyssey.

Well, maybe I'm missing something, but I just don't see it.
 
i guess most of the people didnt agree with you scanner. but its just everyones opinions. personally i do love it, and i voted for it. but then i sort of changed my mind, but it was too late.. shrugs oh well.. thats the sucky thing about not being able to edit ur vote on the poll..
 
I was tempted to go for Rediscovery, it's amazing.

But I picked Masquerade. I think Masquerade is how neoclassical metal should be done (especially the 98 version). I refer to it as "Phantom of the Opera" - metal because it just has that vibe to it. It's so dark, and so damn cool. I think the guitar solo interacts with the rhythm so well that it's one of the best put to tape. And don't get me started on the intro.

Anyway, yeah. I can't believe I was the first to pick it!

I really agree with you, ChaoticM. I prefer the shorter songs. :tickled: Everybody knows I like Out of the Ashes. I played that song back to back a good dozen times once. :p Sea of Lies is a good one too. Unfortantely, the albums are just way too expensive to get. :yell: Dang-diddly-darn-it!

It'll end up winning. It's already got a big lead and the number of people voting has really dwindled. Not that I care who wins as this poll is totally insignificant, it just surprises me that so many people consider The Odyssey to be SymphonX's "best" song. Being a huge fan of the band (they are my favorite band by far) I just think there are many other songs I would use to covney the greatness of this band.

And again, I do like the song, but it's not anywhere near the top of my SyX list.

And it's fine that people don't agree with me. I'm not trying to tell anyone they are wrong for liking that song the best, I'm just surprised, that's all. I'm just inclined to believe it's more because of the magnitude of the song (length) that people chose it. I personally prefer TDWOT much, much better. I think it's a much better and more interesting song. I think the lyrical and musical performances on it are better and more diverse.

Anyway, no biggie. This poll isn't going to change anything in the realm of SymphnyX music. The Odyssey is a good song, but to me it's not a "great" song. Many of Syx's other songs are "great". Hell, they have more great songs on any 1 of their albums than most bands have in a career! Lucky us!
 
I must say I agree that Sea of Lies represents a lot more of what Symphony X can do as a metal band. The solos are very melodic, and everyone knows the tapping rules. But the Odyssey's cool, too, because Romeo sets himself apart from the pack as a composer.
