Hmmm, let's see. Carry 1 small iPod that fits in my pocket and gives me the choice of 7,000+ songs, or 1 larger Discman along with multiple CDs, only to have it skip every 14 seconds.

I fail to see the problem here.

Yeah, they're entirely NOT necessary, but for anyone who commutes or spends a great deal of time in their car (which defines both JayK and myself), they rule.

I have a (now broken) FM transmitter, which really only works when I get the feck away from NYC.

My next car will have the iPod wired right through the stereo itself. Soon enough, soon enough...

fuuuuck, tried that FM transmitter thingie this past summer when I was toying with an MP3 player for the car ... that thing made the MP3 player sound like an AM radip station ... I am a stickler for good sound, and that shit just did not cut it.

did you guys ever hear metal on high end systems??? fuck ... it's like a whole new dimension

The problem with FM transmitting around here (and any very heavily populated area) is that there is simply very little available "open" FM frequencies for the transmitter to piggyback the iPod on. So you get a lot of static, sometimes the station overpowers the transmitter and the iPod cuts out entirely, they just suck. I guess if you live in the middle of nowhere, they'd work just fine.

I have a very high end system (home, not car), so yeah, I know what you mean.

@lurch: im surprised you even listen to music in your mini. listening to the sound of the exhaust and shifting by the pitch of the engine is much more appropros to sports car ownership than listening to music...............unless you have a long way to go. then i could understand. personally, im in the car for a few minutes at a time. and its spent driving like a motherfucker.

Well, during busier times (i.e. not now), I drive for a living. I'm in field sales, so I drive sometimes upwards of 2-5 hours/day and sit in lots of traffic.

I very, very, very rarely, if ever, want to listen to an album from start to finish. I'd much rather listen to a random selection of songs from a similar style of music, i.e. power metal, classic rock, whatever.

word. i have a dual borla on the ol mx5. i thought about a CAI but may supercharge it someday. the CAI would then be a waste of money.

Borla's are nice and loud ...

The Cooper S has a supercharger obviously ... most people put a CAI on it + a Magnaflow ... fucking nice sounds from that little car.

but seriously though, the WRX ain't pretty. that's part of the charm though, i mean people don't expect that stupid looking thing to go fast so they point and laugh, and then they cry when they get dusted by me in my grocery getting lezzzzzzbian wagon.

as for the WRX, i was serious about being ugly but kidding about trying to be offensive. im really disappointed in the new subarus. all of them are really unnattractive and that bugs me because i love subarus.
