So my kicks are too weak, eh?

Bass heavy at the right, well defined but not intrusive. Good thud.

Remind me of Nickelback's "All The Right Reasons" kick, especially on "Follow You Home".

Great job!

Giuseppe [giubis]

P.S.
Is it real drums or sampled? Maybe some Slate in it?

ermz... with only 1 line on the matter. It's this a HA i told so mix! cause i love it ;)
had to grab the cans for this one, the manns blow :P but dude fucking good stuff.. The manns definitely pronounced that click a lot, so I'll sheep it out and agree with the rest. Great job dude :)

PS: I love the vocals, but maybe it's me, they seem like they could be a little brighter from what I'm hearing. But yeah I love what you did on them.

I'd say that there's either a tad too little subbass on the kick drum, or it's placed so low that my cans don't translate it very good (i'm at work right now so i'm on superlux hd660's)

Other than that it's grand, keep it up ! :Spin:

I would cut a little of that "unplesant" click but i dig the low end!

Yeah, the kick definitely needs a little taken out of that 3-4k range. I often have to scoop there with Slate kicks. Other than that, it sounds really nice. Reminds me of Linkin Park - the vocals and synths/effects.

edit: on second listening/different setup, I'm really not liking the high-end of this kick. But then again, I don't really like the highend of the Nickelback album you're trying to vibe off here, so hey. With some shaping EQ it could turn out nicely though.

And why do you end the song right before the climax!?

The DAW thought of what guitarguru does for a dayjob and got performance anxiety.

Cool guys, cheers for the impressions. I'm mostly definitely going to subdue the attack on the kick tomorrow when I get back into it. When listening from the next room all I could hear was 'clack clack'. It's strange because I've never had to REMOVE high end and high mids to this degree. I'm normally adding them.

@morgan: I was actually vibing off 'Hybrid Theory' for this. Been listening to it since Monday to get into the right mindset for this track. Trying to 'top 40' it out as much as I can.

The 1176s are still in the shop, so I'm using less outboard than I want, but there's still a fair bit on there. DBX 160 on the kick, Distressor on snare, Overstayers on guitars (reamped by lasse) and the synths (they work great here), and Millennia on lead vox. Aaaand the GSSL is taking off ~6dB on the master bus, which is the most I've ever done.

This mix came together surprisingly fast considering how long its taken me to get stuff up and running lately. I spent a long time editing this one just right, and I think taking that approach to prepping it prior to the mix really helped things shape up quicker and with less stress. There is much less processing going on here than some of my more recent stuff. When you have a decent arrangement and parts of it are well tracked, things become a lot easier in the mix.

Song cut off before chorus for 2 reasons:

1) I want to titty-late you
2) The master bus compression makes the chorus come in a lot softer than the verses and I haven't done any master fader riding yet

It sounds very full, and I like the clickiness. I think if it were a faster song, the click would really help. For this particular song, I'd tone it down a tad.

what kinda settings on the millennia? how much compression? I really love the vocals on this.

and, you ride the master fader????

Thanks guys. The click will definitely get toned down. I want to make it more of a dull thud like the latest AIC record. I'll probably just set the high shelf at like 1 or 2kHz and take it all down from there. Should retain the meat while killing click.

With this level of master bus compression you more or less have to ride the master fader, because the denser parts will drop in volume. I'll do what I can automating individual tracks like kick snare vox etc. but if its still lacking the whole thing will have to shift.

There are 2 compressors on the lead vocal, and one limiter. Millennia, 1176 Rev A & Waves L1. The Millennia is only taking off about 4dB at 2:1 ratio, very gentle, smooth settings. It's a very obvious compressor in that unit, so you can't go hard with it. Bumping about 2dB of highs, a fair few db at like 1.6khz and cutting a little at 500hz and dropping some lows with a shelf. Jeremy bought a good chain as per my request about a year ago, and his tracking technique is good, so the vocals really don't need much at all. EQ, compression, saturation, delay and verb to taste and it's all done. Come to think of it I"m not even using any widening on them. There are about 10 tracks of vox that are muted in this export. There's lots of stereo backing stuff going on, so I wanted the leads to fire down the center.

For the questions that got asked before... the band is Memnoir. We have already done 3 tracks together. The coming 3 will complete what should be the debut album. This is the most 'radio rockin' track of all of them, so that's why I'm shooting for this type of sound. The other two will sound fairly different.
